I taught myself 3Fly over a long period of time. There were so many ways to do it that I think I just got overwhelmed by it. I sorta like feeling as though I'm causing the magic rather that the magic sorta happening inspite of me...That is to say that I for various reasons like the ungaffed versions moreso. One, they are cheaper and just as magical, depending on who's doing it. The gaffed versions are slick but usually expensive for just one trick. The ungaffed versions are many and more readily available if you set out to learn it. I recently decided once and for all to sit down and get it going. So I did that, noticed a lot of things as to doing it different ways, things I like and things I don't like about it. Even came up upon some nuances in the effect that I'm wondering about as to whether others have done the trick this way...I'll have to check with someone about it as to certain moves. But it's a wonderful effect once you get it down good and works well because of not so much what you do but what it causes spec's minds to do in tryign to follow along. I guess I might do a simple enough version but a couple of moves I'll have to ask around about. I'd say it's definitely worth learning and it seems like everyone has to some extent. As to the original question, I vote for the ungaffed versions and the one with the extra seems quite believable and magical when done well and you might not be completely cleann at the end but it's really close enough. Just my 2 cents and oh, if you just want to spend a lot of money, heck you can make just about anything look better from 3Fly to women and that just about covers evertyhing all in between as well. So "Is it better?" and or "Does it look better?" can be two very different things.

Y'know, that looks nice but to me it looks pretty much as it did (at least as to Menage et Trois that is). If it's at Schoolcraft's site then there's something extra to it but I just don't see why as it appears so much like the original version. I can see a little cleaner views here and there I suppose but...Oh well, Kenner's stuff is always topshelf so I will leave it at that. Good clip from a great magician.

Seeing as how ThreeFly was not supposed to be a stand alone effect but should be used as a middler in between a 3 coin production and 3 coin vanish, it looks like this may make it easier to be the one ahead needed without having to hold it out the whole rest of the routine.

David Acer wrote this about Mirage Et Trois on My Lovely Assistant:
"The magic community needs another Fingertip Coins Across routine like it needs a Lota Toilet Bowl, so if you're sitting at home right now hatching a plan to release your own version, you'd better be bringing more to the party than a few modified finger positions. Still worse for would-be variationists, Eric Jones has officially raised the bar with Mirage et Trois, a beautiful, genuinely entertaining approach bookended by a magical production and vanish of the three coins. In terms of mechanics, most of the sleights involved will be familiar to coin workers - Ramsay Subtlety, Retention Vanish (used as a shuttle pass), Kainoa Harbottle's Steeplechase Change, the production of a coin from J.W. (i.e., Jimmy Wilson) Grip, etc - but Eric has reorganized and repurposed them in ways that lead to surprising results. In fact, even experts will likely find novel sequences to integrate into their own three-coin routines, including: * A playful phase near the beginning where the apparent production of a third coin at the fingertips of the magician's free hand repeatedly turns out to be a transposition of the second coin from his other hand. * Three striking translocations in less than three seconds with a single coin (called "The Flurry"). * A great one-two-three vanish at the end where all three coins begin in a spread at the fingertips of one hand, then each is taken by the other hand and squeezed into nothingness without any clumsy retransferring. Mirage et Trois is not for beginners, despite boasting crystal clear explanations (and Eric Jones is exceptionally smooth, so he makes everything look easy), but anyone with even intermediate coin skills should have no trouble learning this excellent routine. From my experience from searching the exact same question 3 years ago was: your own. Make your own. Create the image YOU want your specators to see and then create the patter and find the slights to make it work. But again: make your own. Only then will you be truely satisfied and truely excited about this amazing routine. -DP

I timed the demo routine. 42.31 seconds for $800.00 in Morgans. That works out to $18.90 per second to perform as per the demo. I must admit, a very nice and clean routine. A lot of convincers. The final transposition and especially the disappearance of the third coin from the left hand is truly magical. If you perform this 1,000 times it will only cost 80 cents per performance. Your call. Does anyone know how successful sales were at Magic Live?

In my opinion Kohler Ultimate 3 fly is still most magical and pure looking 3 fly out there. And it is 500$ less than Superfly! However I bet that the new Ultimate 3 fly 2 will now be 1000$ just because the demand and price of the other versions seems to be so high.

Looks beautiful in Kenner's hands although very similar to Menage et Trois from TOC. I'm sure the coins are very well made but gosh, $800, too much for me! Curtis, thanks for posting the link to the video.

I have no doubt that U3F2 will be at least $500 with some routines included. But, I wonder who will make the coin gaffs. Not Lassen, obviously. Schoolcraft is busy making Superfly. My guess is the man who crafted The Fitch/Kohler holdout.

Lithyem,
Thanks for the find. I liked his presentation of an age old card classic at the end. Way to milk it. He really throws the coins around at the end. The gimmick can be handled that naturally? |

I was at Magic Live and Jamie said he sold out of all of the Superflys he brought with him in the first five minutes his booth was open, though I don't know how many he had. The crush at his table was pretty intense though and he was taking a lot of orders for more for future delivery.
