Hey Guys:

Wanted to see if I could get any feedback on my new video. Check it out at http://www.darshwood.com or you can search for "darshwood" on YouTube. Don't hold back on criticism and thanks for the support.

For those of us who might feel at a loss, how do you feel your work relates to postmodernism?

So "postmodern" has now come to mean "doing a string of every effect in magic with no rhyme or reason"? Let's see: card tricks, fanning, cups & balls, sponge balls, needles from mouth, spoon bending, etc. Yep, that stands out from the crowd.

Dude, check the phrase postmodern in a dictionary or Google it. You'll see what it really means.

If you go to most magician's websites you'll see a lot of the same stuff you are doing. I'm sure you're good at what you do, but postmodern this is not.

Well I read what it says in the dictionary. I still can't understand what it means. It means posting magic in the modern way on the web I recon.
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Hey Darshwood!

I think you do a passable job with the material shown on the video. Your audiences seem to like you, which puts you ahead of most of the guys out there. In fact, the vast majority of magicians never perform for anything other than the mirror, camera, and a few friends and relatives.

I'm not sure I understand the "post-modern" part as it applies to you / your act, as every routine on your video as well as your costume would certainly pre-date post-modernism. So does the term "conjurer."

But hey, if you're out there working and getting paid and the catch-phrase works for you, more power to you my friend. If you're making all or part of your living with magic, you don't need advice from magic forums!

I liked the video.

Call it what you want. Most people don't know what post-modern is anyway...who cares if you use the term correctly?

(And my own opinion, perhaps not so humble, is that the term is basically meaningless today. Now, Jon and I might get into a debate about this, since his opinion usually seems to imply that he thinks words mean something. But that's Jon for you.)

... and since when magicians should be prevented from lying or using strange words that the public doesn't understand (like "Hocus Pocus", "prestidigitation", "classics" or "post modernism") to refer to their performances, when it supplies the intended effect.
Magic is the art of proving impossible things in parallel dimensions that can't be reached
