There are so, so many essential books that it tough to make a meaningful reply. You could have enough card magic to perform if you only had Close Up Card Magic by Harry Lorayne. Nuff Said.

Don't wanna sound so offensive and rebellious here but from what I know ROYAL ROAD by hugard and braue is a difficult to understand book.
cuz hugard and braue were not together when they wrote it, thus the end prodcut seemed *quite* haphazard. honestly, I ran thru it and picked up only very little. I wouldn't advice it for beginners (my friend who owns da book, is having diffuclty too) instead, pick up THE EXPERT AT THE CARD TABLE by E.S. Andr------ I mean SW Erdnase some "basic pieces" that you might find useful (if you been into magic for awhile)...... and after you "study" Erdnase, you can then advance on to reading ROYAL ROAD........ if you're not a lazy reader. remember, I picked up only VEEERY little frmo ROYAL ROAD. Erdnase? made me *better* though I already knew some of the sleights. just my 2 cents. your mileage may vary I'll add: they sent transcripts of the text and drawings thru mail (which is one reason why I called it as it is above) this is; from waht I was told, remember that but the person who gave me the revelation is an EXTREEEEEMLY knowledgable cardician can you guess how he is? |

I would agree - everything by Simon Aronson.
His magic is strong and well-thought out, and his style of writing is immaculate.
