Hey Piz, its all good! And yes your idea would be perfect.
I too like the idea of pulling out Strippers, but don't tell Lyndsy that...lol. As for the comments to a living room size, that's really funny you should mention that. Originally the Accumulator was going to be a much smaller prop that would simply be on a table base or sit on a magicians table where they could pull out all kinds of objects ending with something big and heavy like a bowling ball which ends by droping on the floor with a loud "thud". Built to look like some sort of weird time machine or something. But as we began to build the table top version, I wanted to go big or go home. I decided I wanted to build a larger version that had the capibilty of producing people, or animals etc as the finale. But I can say that a table top version would work( I have one half built already.. And I may end up finishing that too, not sure. (Micro Accumulator). As for the current size, it will fit in the back of a small sedan's trunk(out of the case) It packs up pretty small, and can be set up and taken apart by one person only. The base is very very deceptive even at close range. The rest of the illusion is also very deceptive at close range, a few feet away and that's all you need. Also when all the doors are opened at the end, the surface of the base floor appears seamless. P.

Well, thanks for the input guys.
I have another big illusion coming out this month called 'Pierced Alive' and then one more after that. Then perhaps we will start to work on a micro accumulator, we will see. But just curious, would you guys prefer it to look like a strange time machine kinda thing? Peter.

Not a big fan of box illusions as they tend to be a bit samey...until now !!!
Really refreshing and innovative approach that looks like magic. I bet stage performers will be knocking down Peters door for this one. |

Gilgamesh, these were my thoughts exactly, which is why I asked the question, so thanks for the feed back. Does this mean I have to make two different micro models...lol. One contraption, and one regular? This is a good topic of discussion in general when it comes to prop design.

As normal as a Box could look, that's what makes it magical IMO.
Really looking forward to a Micro version of this, don't make it too small though, I'd say about as big as a 19" CRT TV. Hey, that would be kinda cool to make the Box look like a TV, work a routine around that? Just brainstorming Paul |

Sorry but what is special in tis illusion?
I can't see nothing special , it's a classic illusion, I don't understand ,yes it's it's a different way to present ( not new) but ....I can't see a genius idea here! |

Hi Marcus. Well if a magician knows anything about illusions they should understand that almost all illusions use similar or classic prinicples to accomplish the effects. Its how you use those methods to create different concepts or plots.
Your comments could be compared to someone saying that when the twister illusion was first created, that it wasn't original because it used m""""rs, or that a sub trunk used a t""p d""r, or that a fire cage used a f""" w"ll, or that Impaled used a harness, or an asrah used a deceptive table etc etc. Look at any new illuison created today, and you should notice that they will all still utilize some sort of classic method in one way or another. You may not see anything special with the Accumulator, and that is absolutely ok as that is your right and your entitlement to your opinion. But there hasn't been an illusion created out there that we know of that uses the methods employed to create this illusion concept/plot, until now. There are only so many ways to accomplish effects, and again its how you use these methods to create an entirely new illusion/plot, espicially to the eyes of Laymen, and that's all I(and most illusion designers) try to do when creating illusions. To Luca Volpe: Luca, it is an honor to have the opportunity to build and customize this prop for you. Can't wait to see it in your show. Best, Peter.

Peter,
I always find it very irritating when a person comes in the Café with less than 10 posts, no contact or personal info, and sacks on a Creator. I would love to hear what Marcus has CREATED and maybe give us some insight on how to be fresh and original. It is so sad that these guys have NO IDEA how hard it is to actually create something from start to finish. It is incredibly difficult to create something entirely new, maybe next to impossible, as there are only so many principles and effects out there. What IS notable is how we, as creators, can weave brand new magical tapestries from threads that have existed for a hundred years or more. In the case of your latest creation, the Accumulator Illusion, I think it is VERY fresh and BRILLIANT! You have combined so many principles leaving countless possible variations of productions and presentations. And the beauty is that the box is so clean and simple. I think it is one of your BEST creations. Good luck with this and, as usual, ignore the mindless mudslingers who simply have nothing better to do than sack on the few who are thinking for the many. Take care Chance

Chance Wolf I don't think the problem is the numbers of my posts,
you don't know if I'm a kid or ...., thanks Peter you are a gentleman, you right in some ways but in some way I'm not whit you, what you say about twister etc..etc.. it's really different from what I want say , I don't compare Ashra whit a flying Illusion of course, but I compare your Accoulator whit a Doll house Illusion for example , there are many similar points similar even in the presentation, for my it's just a different design, from you side Peter you are a seller and I don't have nothing to say about this product you have all of my respects for your job and have a good luck on your job, any way I like your job, we needs new concepts, otherwise it's normal some people can love this product or that one and some people can't love this or that , it's life, what I want say it's : I don't understand for what the people say on this illusion like it was new, the same routine can be created( whit a little work around, but very little work) whit many " old" illusions like "doll house illusion" or I don't know " shadow box or shadow theatre or palanquine " or.....many, so for me this "new" illusion it's just an idea or a routine (not new) on a classic prop, it's like if I whant use for my Osmosis a long jacket ( a la Luis De Matos style, the girl is on the wood ,you cover her, and she vanish little by little from the head until the foots slowly when you move the jacketon her body) or I can use a classic mantle whit a classic Osmosis presentation, they are way to perform differents but basically the prop it's the same, when I saw the demo what I say: "yes good unusual way to use this kind of prop like doll house illusion", but I didn't say" WOW ,great Idea now the world of magic it's different, or I was waiting for this, or....I don't know " because it's a "dejavu " prop, I don't want crytics anyboby here , all of my respects to anybody here , mine it's just an opinion, thanks. |

Marcus,
I apologize if I came off harsh or offended you but truthfully, you must be careful how you post in the Café as you came off as a jerk. The fact that you only had 9 posts at the time and how blunt your comments were with no detailed reasoning gave me that impression. We have been participating in the Magic Café for many years. In those years, we as creators, have simply gotten sick of people coming in and posting cheap shots at us without any explanations or validations. You would have been better off posting your latest response first and there would have been no issues as you clearly state your opinion in a very detailed thought out way. So I have no regrets and hope you have no offense. Once you have sat in our seats for 7-10 years, you would fully understand. Take care Chance

Hi Marcus, What is new about the accumulator is not the deceptive base or other methods employed here for example as you compared to a doll house illusion, it is the visual illusion of pulling something from nothing. There is more to the prop design then I think you are aware of that allows this illusion to actually work with Accumulator. Yes while the Accumulator uses as a deceptive base and other illusion techniques, this is not what is unique about the prop, its in its design to create a new optical illusion of pulling something from nothing, and this specific optical illusion was never possible with any other prop before including a doll house, or shadow box etc as you compare it to. This in my opinion enables the illusion to be a completley brand new visual plot/concept espicially to laymen.
Chance thanks for the support! Marcus thanks for your opinions, I understand what you are trying to say. P.

Thanks again Peter,
we need out there people like you, anyway you try to put something new out and just from your mind( sometimes I appreciates your ideas some times not, but it's normal) , so this is good, just your personal vision of magic, I'm really tired to see out there a lot of origami a lot of twister a lot of cubus a lot of interlude a lot of animation suspended...., why not many peoples today are able to create personal pieces of magic, like magicians from the past? today if you see a magic show on a cruise ship or in a theatre in Us or in Asia or in Europe you can see the same illusions why it's like this whitout Fantasy? Why the magic challanges ( incuded the Fism) bacame so booring almost whit out new ideas like this? I was at the last Fism and I was looking for a confortable coach where spleep! just card manipulator and doves! nothing new to put out? I don't think so and I don't want think so! thanks againg. |
