What is a good way to cut a nice neat square in the middle of the cards for this effect without bending them?

Well I never ran across a linking cards effect where you didn't fold the cards in half or in fourth before ripping them... but I'm guessing if you pinched the card in the center so just the part you are going tear out is creased up slightly you could tear from the center out and form it into a nice neat square.
Good Luck, Sam

Are you trying to perform a particular known effect, or do you just want a method for cutting a square? Would an Exacto style knife not suit your needs?

Harry Lorayne has a nice linking card routine where he makes 2 frames out of 1 card. You basically fold the card in half back and forth and tear it down the middle. Then you take the 2 halves and fold each one in half and the tear it along the borders.
I saw it on the Best of Harry Lorayne Magic Classics DVD and it is called Impromptu Linking Cards Routine. I am sure he has published it but not sure where. If you want written routine you can probably ask Harry where it is published. Hope that helps TC |

I used to do Roger Crabtree's version and tried every one that came out but I had to laugh when I found Harry's version. I don't remember which book however but Im sure the next poster or two will know. Similar but different is "Paradapt" that I published in The Magic Menu early on but it's not linking but it does involve tearing a three sided tear out of the center of a card. -=tabman

My Impromptu Linking Card routine originally appeared in QUANTUM LEAPS. Coincidentally, I am right now in the throes of updating and re-writing that book, plus TREND SETTERS and more (probably DINGLE'S DECEPTIONS, plus) for LORAYNE: THE CLASSIC COLLECTION, Volume 3. Be a while before that's finished/available. Right now, as mentioned, I do demo/teach it on one of my "Best Ever" DVD volumes. You can learn more about that if you go to my new (and incomplete) magic website. That address is listed under this post - the one with the word "magic" in it. Best - HARRY L.
