Hello friends.
Some time ago,in order to get an advice from a magician "friend",I sent to him by e-mail a video clip of me doing a bottom deal. He never replied and I was worried a little bit, because until that time he used to be very friendly and co-operative at me. Because he had a web page at that time, as I always did, opened that page and under the "video clips" section, with the title "My last bottom"...I watch me...and my clip. Does, by any chance, somebody knows how can we protect from things like that? I mean,is there something like a signature or an etiquette when a video clip is made, that I can use, to proof any time that this is my work? Is there something that I can do with windows? To make my clips, I use a web cam and these are always in avi format, playable basicly by this Windows Media Player thing. If you need some more details, please feel free to pm me,at any time. Thanks in advance. Vasilis |

Hi Vasilis,
While I don't know of anything that actually stops people stealing your footage in that way, most video editing programs allow you to write text to the screen, I always put my website address prominently in the corner so that footage can always be traced back to me, wherever it ends up. If you want to edit and add titles properly I recommend Adobe Premiere 6.5, however if you don't need the kind of editing power Premiere gives you, there are a few free or cheap utilities to add titles to video. Try a google search, or check out http://www.filemine.com Hope this helps. David Straitjacket

Vasilis,
E-mail him and ask him to remove it within 48 hours, further stating that if he does not, you will report the infraction to his web provider. If he does not, follow through with the provider. I doubt it will get that far, if it is truly your video clip. If it doesn't work, post his page here and we will all download the clip 10 times a day until his bandwidth costs bankrupt him. |

Hi all
I once found that an Anmerican sideshow/circus act had included the name of my circus company, my name and various other related words in there website 'keywords' in order to try and 'steal' people who were looking for my site. A strongly worded email stating my intention to report them to their web host for copyright theft, quickly did the trick. Had it not done I did intend to make relevant complaints and follow a similar path you are suggesting Bo. As well as a few other sneaky underhand tricks I would be happy to suggest by PM. The theft of pictures, text, videos and sometimes even entire websites (as in the case of one sideshow site recently) makes a mockery of peoples hard work. And can damage their reputation in the process. It is theft, pure and simple. Just my tuppence. David Straitjacket

Vasilis, if the web provider argues that there is no way to prove that it is your clip, simply tell them that you can prove it is yours by the signature that is put on your computer. Even though you may have deleted the clip, there are ways to dig into the computer and resurface those files that you thought were completely gone.

Vasilis:
If you can not buy the sofware, just do as I do. I place a name tag with my name on one side while I record my magic. For an example go take a look at one of my vids. Any of them but "Magical moments...". Mago Mai
