In mentalism, of course, as well as magic, it's uncouth to do someone else's routine without "making it yours" (assuming they publish it for the magic/mentalism community). Are PK effects an exception to this? It's extremely difficult, for many types of PK to do it much differently than the people who have perfected it, at least without watering it down. PK effects are usually pretty straight-forward and direct. You just take it out and do it!

I totally disagree, with all respect. I agree with DB and Ken Webber in this regard. Most often, it is the direct presentation which is the most powerful.
I do agree, however, that if you want people to believe you actually have powers and can get them to believe it through some background story and set the stage that they are going to see something dark or spiritual, it would be very powerful. But, for those who do not claim any specific power, but rather entertain, the more direct the better (for the most part). |

Yes...I totally understand. If the 'direct presentation' works for you,of course follow that path.
However,to assume that a performer [like myself]...who prefers to create a story to accompany the PK/TK presentation, automatically means a claim of special powers...is mistaken.[at least in my case] Speaking just for myself,my fully integrated, and lighthearted 'disclaimer'...negates any appearances of special powers...and allows the guests to determine their own conclusions. For me it is all about allowing my guests to 'wonder'...and have fun while doing so. We all must do what works for us as individual performers. Happy trails. Rich |
