OK, for all of you that have My Best: The Best Tricks by The Best Brains In Magic edited by J.G. Thompson JR. 1945 (see my review under books), I would like to discuss some of the mentalism found in this book.
Here's Your Card by Herb Rungie (page pp. 30-31). Description: You hand a deck of cards to the spectator and she shuffles them (or borrow her deck). You cut a small quantity of cards of off the top and show them to her one at a time counting as you do so. She is instructed to think of a card and remember the number it falls at. Shuffle (false) if you like. Placing the cards behind your back you ask, "Is there any way possible that I would know your card or the number it was at?" She replies, "No" (and by the way you do not). Ask her to name a number between 12 and 36 (she picks 20)and state that you will find her card, behind your back and place it at that number. In a matter of seconds you bring the deck from behind your back. For the first time you ask, "What was the number?" She replies "6." You count to the sixth card and ask her to turn it over. It is not her card but you say, "Of course it is not there, I placed it 20th from the top at your request." You keep counting and when you get to the 20th card, it is her selected card! One small change to the directions allows you to let the spectator shuffle the deck. This effect can be performed any time with no set up and I am having a grea deal of fun with it This is a great book that was recently re-reviewed by magic magazine. For $12.50, you can get a new soft cover copy. If you have the book, read pages 30-31. You will most likely figure out the small change I made and if not, PM me with the modus operandi proving you own the book, and I will send you the changes that I have made. I think that this is a great book! |
