The most amazing part, to me , is that he looks like he's not even trying hard.

He isn't.
Kinda cool, huh? In one of the preliminary rounds the German commentators criticized him for looking around and acting like it wasn't anything other than a cakewalk. (OK, the German commentator didn't talk about cakewalks, but you get the idea.) This fascinates me. If you are truly the fastest man on earth (or the strongest or most virile or whatever), are you somehow obligated to be humble while proving it? This is a true story, by the way. The commentator really thought he was lacking something in the sportsmanship department because he didn't look straight ahead and act as if he were about to give birth. And I (being an arrogant man with a stratospheric IQ (what is it these days, anyway? have I passed 400 yet?) think that he didn't doing anything unsportsmanlike in the least. Maybe if the man gave his full concentration he could....what?...be the fastest man in the history of the world? |

You have to feel bad for Tyson Gay.
The previous record for the 100 meter dash, set last year, was 9.72 seconds. Tyson Gay broke that record yesterday by running it in 9.71 seconds, but was still 2nd place to Usain Bolt's world record time of 9.58 seconds! Here's the video (Notice that the automatic camera at the bottom can't keep up!) |

I hope that steroids were not used. It seems hard to believe that he has continually ran faster and faster. There are so many in the sport that HAVE been caught "roiding" up heavily, and even then not coming close to this kind of speed.
If it is all natural than kudos to him, all is deserved. Just makes some wonder in the environment we are in these days! |

Steroid Nation seems to think he's clean. But they quote Carl Lewis as saying "you're" a fool if you think he isn't doping.
I quite watching the Tour de France when I became convinced that there isn't a single contender who isn't doped. But that's a sport I know something about. I don't know anything about sprinting, but I'd like to think that Bolt is simply a freakish phenomenon. I especially love any shattering of conventional wisdom, and he has done that. If he's clean, that it. |

Right. I would *like* to believe. I really would. I would like to believe in magic. Perhaps all of us here would like to as well.
But he was so far in front of the others, and seemed to put in so little effort, that I am skeptical. Honest to God: I haven't been so excited and impressed by a sprinter since Ben Johnson. And even HE didn't do what Bolt is doing Consider this: no one until Bolt had ever set world records in both the 100 and 200 in the same event. Ever. (OK, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't wanna look it up. ) Bolt does it during the 2008 Olympics, and then he does it again this year in the world championships. Usain Bolt is the greatest sprinter of the century. But is he doing it legit? I'd like to think so. I WANT to think so. My ten year-old son is thrilled. I'd like the thrill to remain for the rest of his life. But at this point I feel like it is simply too good to be true. I'll be reading Steroid Nation for the next week or two. |

Whoa! The dates on the original posts have been altered. The first post was made after Bolt's first Olympic 100m medal on Aug. 16, 2008. How did the time stamps all get changed?

I think we also saw the heir apparent last night.
Keep an eye on the 200. That's DeGrasse's best event. |

Well Bolt got his treble treble, well done! We also saw the next one.
I think there was an interesting story here as we saw De Grasse get handed some hard lessons from the master. Pay your dues and if someone has taken you under their wing don't try and push him aside until he's ready to go. |
