I don't include games and teatime entertainment as a "show", though I realise some clients do. For me, the Show part is when the kids sit and watch, with the entertainer up front.
If you include extras, and don't mean just the "magic show", then I nearly always offer 2 hours for Birthday parties, 90 minutes for weddings, and 60 minutes for schools. Public events rarely suit a 60 minute show, so I have a selection of 40 minute shows for these occasions. I usually perform 2 or 3 of these shows during the day, and sometimes go walkabout in between. If it's just walkabout entertainment, that's another kettle of fish. If my clients pay enough, I'll work for 24 hours non-stop! Potty |

My birthday party shows are normally 45 minutes. I do offer a 30 minute show, to those that feel their children cannot sit still for 45 minutes.

WOW! Potty the Pirate...Fantastic! Your advice is top notch. Here in Michigan USA, birthday/club shows seem to be booked between 30-40 minutes. That's what our clients are used to. I usually work 35-45 minutes.

Financially, I think we've concluded that it won't make much difference if you attend 2 - two hour parties, or 3 /4 parties, for just a 45 min show, say. But of course, if you're the only one offering the "complete package", you'll soon be getting most of the enquiries in your area (assuming your actual show is good enough). For most parents, organising games, and other entertainment when the paid entertainer departs, is a nightmare. Virtually all the parents who call me insist on the 2-hour party. I don't even offer the choice of a shorter party at weekends. Be aware though, that it's a lot of physical work once you start to include games and other activities as well as magic. You do need to be a fairly fit and active type if you decide to try this. Potty |
