Everyone needs to check out Shaman at ellusionist.com. That is one of the craziest things I have ever seen (for the first 5 minutes.. lol). I've figured it out... can you? Smile

vootrage,

I have been told that the ellusionist videos rename some existing tricks and fail to make proper attribution to the creators of sleights and routines. As a result, people who learn magic from these products often don't know what they are performing, nor do they know who created the tricks.

Proper attribution is very important. Creators deserve recognition, if not reward.

If the ellusionist company ever makes teaching products with proper attribution, then I might purchase from them someday. But I won’t buy from them today.

I can’t speak for Scott Cram, but I think this might be the reason for his terse response.
Humans make life so interesting. Do you know that in a universe so full of wonders, they have managed to create boredom. Quite astonishing.

This may indeed be what Scott meant, but I took him to be making a witty comment on the famous principle behind the first "Shaman" experiment -- a principle whose name sounds like the German word for "No." Did I misunderstand?

If he meant it to be German, he should have written Nein... (or did I miss something?)

I took that to be a misspelling. Well -- if he didn't mean to write "Nein!" what DID Scott mean? Maybe I totally missed his point.

I haven't visited here in a while, so I'm a little amazed to see my post as a topic of discussion!

He asked if anyone understood the principle, and, simply in the mood for a play on words, I wrote (and misspelled) "Nein!"

It's a play on words that refers both the principle (as in, yes, I understand it), and the German word for "No" (as in, no, I don't understand it).

The ambiguity you're all experiencing was the point.

That is funny!

Sorry Scott. I guess I missed the point entirely!

I've seen 4 versions of that effect now, from different e-mails directing me to different places. One of them is here:

I've deleted the others so I couldn't tell you where they're located.

The coolest thing about this trick is that it would not work in any environment OTHER than on a computer. We need to create more of these; I'd like to create something like this that you could download onto a spectator's cell phone or Palm pilot.

JoeHohman is right that this may only be effective on a computer. The diabolical part is that after you try it once and go back to the page with the chart to see if you can understand it, the chart has changed.

This could be easily done for a phone or palm pilot. You could just do 3 charts with three answers if you wanted to repeat it or do it to someone close by with a different result.

If it exists on the computer, then it can exist on paper!

You could create various random charts with the designated pattern (Nein?)

Then you could place that symbol in an appropriate reveal location (Maybe do it as a 3D effect and give them special glasses to see it.)

Or photocopy the image on overhead plastic and inset it into one of those old viewfinder reels.

Or hide the image on them and then make them reveal it.

Or use ashes to place the symbol on them and then have it revealed.

Just some suggestions.

This thread hasn't been active in a while...

But I made up a walk around version of this that I gave to my son to impress his friends with.

Twelve different charts with 12 different "possibilities" and then combined the revelation with the "OUT TO LUNCH" principle an he's got a killer effect.

He carries it in his bookbag and uses a different chart each time he does it - loading the needed outcome.

In this presentation, it's nearly impossible to figure out.

This effect is based on the result always being x9.
I wonder if anyone would take the time to extend it to non-computer circumstances, such as time, calendar, cards?
