Does anyone know how to do a sunglasses production on your face? I want to look like the way Florian Zimmer does it in his manipulation act. Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RKC_6PV_Zo (the production is at 4:22). Any ideas?

Just an idea, but if you are planning to do this in a close up venue with no cover (like cards in Florian Zimmers act) then a watchband could be a good place to tuck one end of a pair of sunglasses so your fingers and thumb could all be extended while they go up to your face.
I hope I was clear enough and I hope this helps. |

I think I understand what you are saying but I don't know if that will fit with what I want to do. I want it for a stage manipulation routine. And the production will be like FLorian, I want to wave a card or fan of cards in front of my eyes and the glasses appear.

We do not encourage copying material from other performers acts on the Café. If someone came up with an idea or routine, it is not polite to 'steal', 'lift', or copy that person.
If the performer decides to sell his material and ideas that is a different scenario. There are only a few performers that produce sunglasses, but all are very different in method and appearance. So if you can come up with a totally different methodology then go for it. I do not have all the published or video material on the market, but I do not know of any sunglass production available on the market. Doing a search on the internet I did find a reference for Eddie Ray's Complete Card Manipulation DVD series. It shows on volume 4 there is sunglasses production and sunglasses to silk. If you are intested in further study, try this: http://www.magicproshop.com/complete-car......255.html |

Thank you for your post Wmhegbli. It happens to be that I own the Eddy Ray DVD set and I do personally do not like the sunglasses production that he teaches.
Secondly, I definitely do not consider wanting to add that one production to my show "stealing" someone's act. When someone performer makes his routine public, obviously he does not want his entire original act stolen, but I do not think that just because I also want to produce sunglasses it means that I'm stealing his act. If I am wrong in what I'm saying please correct me, but I think I have a valid point. Yehuda |

I think that Florain Zimmer's Sunglass production was inspired by Topas' FISM Act who braught out Lecture Notes in which he descriped his effect.
Homer Liwag's "Ricepapers" booklet contents an routine ending with a production of glasses. Oliver. |

But, I do not agree with your comment that just because a performer shows his act, individual items are available for 'exact' copying. I said, if you produce Sunglasses in a different method, handle the Sunglasses in a different manner, and use a different style frame, color, lenses, etc., this 'would' make it different. Just because you like something does not mean you can produce it. If it is not sold by the originator, then hands off. Now you could contact Florian Zimmer, and offer get his permission to use his exact method and if he wished to give permission, then that would be okay. Or if you would pay him for his creative efforts. Oliver Ross above was kind enough to point out 2 references for you look up. I think his post makes my point. He said Topas was inspired, not copied the exact version in the lecture notes. But being they were published in a set of lecture notes, give Topas the permission to perform as written. It is not important if you agree with me, it is that you did not get a response to your post, even though a good number read your request. I take it that many want to uphold the policy of the Café. That is enough, we can move on now. Anyone have any other references? |

Ok Wmhegbli, I hear what you are saying. I'm sorry if there was a bit of a miscommunication. I first off did not mean copying his handling of the production exactly. And it's interesting that you are saying that even if I did mean to copy that one production it would not be right. I always thought that to copy a whole part of an act is wrong but I never thought that one little thing would be a problem. Come to think of it I understand that. Thanks for pointing this out.

Thank you to Oliver for your post. I watched a video of Topas's act a while ago. Great stuff. I should look back to refresh my memory.

Try thinking outside the box and you would be surprised at some new innovations you can come up with.

You don't have to be a creative genius to come up with your own act. Just start somewhere, with tricks you like, and perform as much as possible. With a few teaspoons of personality, a sense of humor, and some humility, in 10 short years, if you put any thought into what you do at all, you'll probably realize that your act is quite unique and quite good.

If you read the article in Magic Magazine this month, you would learn that he taught the basics and then encouraged creative thinking to develope your own style and act. I don't think Channing Pollack copied the basic Chavez material. His act was the most original at the time and he was a headliner throughout the world. Students learned the basics and paid cash for this education. In 1972 I paid $1,250.00 for the course. That was a lot of money at time in history. |

That's more than half what my dad's car cost in that year.
if you're average new car now costs $25,000 it would be like wmgegbli paying $12,000. That's some serious cashola, lettuce, spondulicks, green, cabbage, coin, greenbacks.

Try to find Topas act from FISM 1988. He had some very good ideas and produced sunglasses 6-7 times during his act.

He wants to make one pair of sunglasses appear not copy the act WMHEGBLI, that is what I'm trying to get across in my statement. I guess I'm reading more into your words also.
