Lucy and I are finishing out August in France this year. My calling is stage magic and busking usually has no appeal to me beyond watching a few friends work at times. However, Paris looks like an excellent opportunity for street magicians using rope. A low tip here is 2 Euros and the traffic is great. However, I have also noticed that acts on the street without music don't do nearly as well. Providing music should be a good investment in a street act here. Currently, I don't have equipment with me to solve that problem but if I return and have the time, I may try it.
A good rope routine should be a great fit in this market. Any ideas? Bob Sanders Magic By Sander PS --- Another great observation about Paris: Don't Litter! |

How's the French wine? Can you get a good vintage bottle of Ripple over there?

Look folks,
Over here the bottles have labels! Stuff comes in little personal sized servings in one liter glass bottles. Hardly enough to pass around like a jug in Alabama. You can get ham but no grits! The biscuits are really strange. Apparently they are left overs. They are very hard on the outside and there must be a real shortage of biscuit cutters in France. The biscuits look like long tubes. Sausage patties don't fit at all. When I can see better, I'll tell you more about the wine. The fresh new wine must be gone or they forgot to make it. All the wine they have has been around several years. If we drink all of that up, maybe they will get out the new fresh stuff from this summer. I think I'll keep away from the rope shears until the rope will be still enough to cut. Trying to hold the rope still with my hands or feet seems risky right now. Oops! It's 5 o'clock somewhere. Got to go. Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

The best rope routine would be the Mongolian Pop Knot in my opinion.

Hey Bob, to get some rope suppliers while your on the road in Europe.
So, the Mongolian pop knot, French version, is where you put the knot in the mouth and untie the knot with your tongue.

Dynamike,
I can't speak French or English. I'm from Alabama and don't even have a first language. Al, Do you think wearing cufflinks while busking is inappropriate? Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |

Dynamike:
Most french people should *understand* English, though not as well as some other europeans citizens from British (or formerly British) territories or nordic (scandinavian) countries, for example. But *speaking* a decent English is another story: our accent is... terrible, even Germans manage better
My English sucks, I know it. It's probably better than your French anyway...

I can't believe you cannot buy a boom box in Paris, French. They do not have any electronic stores in Paris? This would be a good opportunity to get some really good French music. Do they have music stores? When you come back here you will not have to worry about the 'rights' thing.

Tonight I did my 7 minute rope routine at a private affair for British investors in France. It really went well. However, this was a far cry from busking.
Lucy's routines went very well too. (She is what gives my show some class! LOL) Bob Sanders Magic By Sander |
