I have just received word that I can now announce the new project we shot this summer at L&L Publications is a DVD representation of Corinda's 13 Steps to Mentalism.
This has been a very exciting event for me and represents many, many months of hard work, time and money on the part of so many. I want to publicly thank Louis Falanga for his confidence in choosing me, Jim Sisti and Sandy for the months of planning and preparation starting in mid 2008 and I would especially like to thank Tom Cutts for his fine wine, fine cooking and moral support throughout the project! At the moment, the series is in post-production. It WILL appear this year and probably sooner than later. I will keep everyone updated as to the progress. Thanks, Richard |

Richard,
This sounds like an instant classic. Can you say what will be covered. It would be interesting to see some of the chapters come alive...Mediumistic Stunts, Q&A, Publicity Stunts, Pencil-lip-muscle reading. Is this more of a indepth teaching with theory? Will there be any interviews...Fogel is gone, but there are some greats around? I was driving in my car yesterday and was thinking of how you impacted Mentalism and how many items you teach and offer...I can not think of a better person to represent this material. This is the first DVD set I am very excited to get. -Scott M. |

Wow...
That must have been quite a big undertaking! I thought I'd never see 13 Steps in dvd format... Hopefully you left some of the gems in the book!

Let me offer a few particulars to give you an oversight and answer a few of your questions. No, no interviews. The task was already big enough! The problem was attempting to keep the original flavor of the book, trying to not interject too much of myself into the work and yet updating effects where necessary, making the material as accessible as possible and keeping everything within a reasonable finished product. Some chapters, such as Two Person Telepathy, can represent a lifetime of work. We elected to show how a basic code works and how you can expand on it as well as different methods of doing this type of act. If you want to study further and develop a whole career you can start here. But if you want to work a few weeks and add a two-person segment to your show, this will teach you how. We covered every chapter in order and performed approximately 1/3 of the effects from the book. I choose those which I considered to be most practical and representative of the whole. Louis’s aim was to have the set stand on its own (which it does), but I, of course, would still prefer the student work with the book hand-in-hand along with the DVD’s. To answer your question, yes, it I consider it an in-depth teaching with theory. Each step will have a discussion section with Jim and me, followed by some effects from that section and a discussion of each one and how it relates to the concept of that chapter. The menu will be very user friendly so that you can go to whatever section or effect you wish to view. I have also tried to offer some new ideas and material that falls into the scheme of Corinda’s thinking. Some things have changed and improved over 50 years and we wanted these DVD’s to be timeless. On the other hand, most of the material has withstood the test of time and I tried to present it as Corinda wrote it. The set will probably contain 6 long discs and be very reasonably priced. Thank you Richard. This will exceed my expectations. The time, energy, thought and finances that went into this sounds like the project was treated with much respect and I believe (predict) that it will reflect that and do well.

I try very hard to keep my "wants list" as short as I can. This was just added to the list.

Wow. On one hand I very much want to see the videos. On the other, how many "instant Corindas" do you think that this will spawn?

Wow! Fantastic news. It's akin to The Pope doing a DVD version of The Bible. Well done Richard and thanks for sharing.

John,
I have not seen many Osterlind, Luke Jermay, Banachek, T.A. Waters, etc 'spawns' out there. I believe that many will view for curiosity and critique it without doing hardly any of the effects in performance setting. Mentalism is tough outside of our immediate families. Maybe your right John, but I doubt they will last. TA Waters last page of his tome has much to say on being original. But these are classic timeless techniques that every mentalist should train in and apply them to his 'character' or 'personality' for performing original effects. We'll see. -Scott M |

When Corinda does offer his own effects, they are usually just the nuts and bolts of it. (With the exception of the center tear.) I also did my best to be as "neutral" in my performing so as not to invite imitation, but rather a learning experience. Richard |

I'm curious if Corinda was involved in this project in one way or another? Anyway, I'm sure this will be a winner. Can't wait.
