I'm in love with Max Maven's 'Zenvelopes' effect, but I'm having a hard time finding some suitable envelopes. They needn't necessarily be as large as the ones Max uses on the Videomind performance.
I've been around all my local stationery shops without success, and I really want to avoid making them myself if I can help it. I'd love to hear from anyone who has found suitable items. Cheers. |

I'm not familiar with the effect (or size of the envelope), but did you try the obvious places like Wal-mart? Also, UPS stores usually have lots of envelope sizes. Good luck.

I couldn't find any either for just using regular sized zenner cards, so I made my own, and frankly I did such a poor job of making the envelopes..I've never done the routine in public.

Thanks for the replies.
To clarify for those not familiar with the effect, these are not envelopes as such, by which I mean they do not have flaps. They are open ended (the best example I can think of is the little 'envelope' you get with Clue/Cluedo to put the murder cards in at the beginning, at least in my old set) and crucially for this effect they need to be stiff.... I really, really don't want to make them myself! |

I hunted up and down California without a ton of luck. My final recourse was to find templates for similiar "envelopes" online, printed them onto color paper, and cut along the lines.
Best of luck. |

Max Maven mentioned on the video ( if my memory doesn't trick me)that he made them out of a black, light card board.
At least I did when I did this a pretty long time ago, and that worked fine. Don't think envelopes, - rather think pockets Sven

Cheers Lem and Sven - 'pockets' is a great word Sven, much more accurate.
I guess I'll be making my own, I just hate anything remotely 'arts and crafty'. |

Oh my - thank you Greg. I feel very stupid now - for some reason I never even thought of looking online. I suppose there are things I imagine buying online and others (stationery among them clearly!) where the idea never even crosses my mind...

My pleasure. I've been helped many a time when I'm looking for something so I guess this is my payback... or pay it forward when I need it again.

This is why the Magic Café is so great. Somebody always comes through to help.
By the way, just bought "Simple Minded" from Greg and it is really good, especially like your twist om another Max Maven effect in the book! |

The key to these envelopes (I think of them as "sleeves") is the proper STIFFNESS of the material. After searching in vain I decided to make my own. Just today I picked up at Office Depot 2-pocket cardboard 3-hole binders (on sale, 2 for 39 cents). Each binder has 2 inside pockets that can be cut to size to form the sleeve for whatever size ESP cards you're using. All you have to do is leave a 3/8" strip to fold over and glue. Each binder makes 2 sleeves for Zenvelopes. My store didn't have black so I'm using dark blue. It's easy!

If anyone still performs this effect, which envelope are you using?
Thanks! |
