Hi,
Does anyone know what is the biggest size of windshear available ? I have seen a few windshear illusions on youtube, and the one by Priscilla Khong is biggest I have seen around. Does anyone else have a bigger Windshear ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x-avQzwq2......nel_page |

Write Bill Smith and he can tell you as he is only authorized builder.

I've always thought that Windshear was a great illusion...up to the point where practically everyone uses the cheesy looking CO2 launcher.

We're looking at putting a Windshear in our show. I talked to Bill and he sent pictures of some of the bigger ones he's built as I'm 6' 6" I'm a big guy. Ringling features one of the largest and a very beefy looking prop it is... I think we'll end up going with something along those lines... Bill will give you all the info there definitely are much bigger versions than the original...

Just looking at the Ringling photo .. I'm pretty sure it's the very same size prop underneath all the added pieces.
The first video I suspect is a knock-off. Yes, it's a taller prop than the original but .. there are a few little details that are different. The base of the prop is a bit different .. and of course it's not a well lit clip. I'm pretty sure it's like some clothing .. one size fits all. Steve |

It's probably the standard size, it just looks bigger when you are a small, Asian woman.

Jim Steinmeyer works with both Ringling and Priscilla Khong so a knock-off is unlikely. I do know for sure the Ringling prop is larger than normal because jim specifically mentioned it was.

I can concure with Craig. When I initially inquired about the prop Bill confirmed with me that the blades were longer making the prop larger. On the Ringling version that is. He sent me pictures of other larger blade versions he built in the past as well.

Why would a tiny girl need a bigger prop?? It's really hard to tell what's going on with a video online. It just appeared that the base was of different proportions. I could simply be wrong .. maybe I need glasses??
That would look hot with the spandex of course .. Steve |

Steve, it is an Original windsheer...which Priscilla is using. It was custom made by Bill Smith. Making it bigger made the illusion look a little more grandeur. Mark Parker always tells me, the bigger the fan, the better it looks. I kinda agree...

I'm not sure if the bigger windshears look better. I understand if it is built bigger to accommodate a bigger performer but I'm not so sure if it is just for the sake of being big? The design for windshear is to look like an exhaust fan of sorts. If you want to go bigger, it might make more sense with the Jet Turbine or a large box type exhaust fan. I thought Taylor Reed's rework which Criss Angel did on one of his episodes was a great idea and it looked credible. From the 'raw' prop to the size.
In the clip above, the performance was a bit cold and the dancers were distracting. I thought the prop dwarfed the performer and not in a good way. I understand the bigger fan for Ringlings as it is supposed to be a larger than life/ caricature-like show, hence the larger than life, almost cartoon-like windshear. |
