Just thought I'd pass this along in case folks didn't know about it:

The Stud brand decks at Walgreen's are good quality cards (favored by a number of top card men, actually) made by the USPCC at a pretty cheap price. They also carry pinochle decks which exactly match the poker decks. Besides the obvious uses (replacements for T&R, dupes, etc) these decks also come with six double-blank cards.

One could buy a few decksa of these and have all the dupes and blanks he might need at a significantly lower price than buying an entire forcing deck and a blank deck from magic stores. Of course, if you need 52 dupes of one card or a full double-blank deck, a magic shop would be the way to go.

Scott -- thanks for that info; I recall someone else at the Café mentioning the Walgreen cards. I am very intrigued with the use of blank cards to produce some effects, and I will give the pinochle deck a try. By the way, I have checked out your website and you are awesome, with very funny and entertaining material as well (!!). Thanks for taking the time with your post.

Excellent tip Scott, THANKS!

I've used STUD on and off and always liked em but due to the slightly over a buck a pack for Bikes I felt compelled to go after cost efficiency. With the recent (temporary) disappearance of Bikes at Costco I bought a couple doz. packs of STUD and have become pretty fond of em! Having some gaffing options now make em even more appealing!

Thanks again,

MMc

Thanks, Scott! I use Pinochle decks for most of my effects, so it's off to Walgreen!

It hit me that the pinochle deck itself is essentially a mene tekel deck.

So far, the Walgreen's I've checked have not had the Stud pinochle decks in stock. Will keep searching!

Thanks for the tip, Scott!

Walgreens don't do overseas business, that is a drawback and got me no choice to get my Studs via ebay.

Dear Godfather Vinny,

Yes, I do have some of them you mentioned in stock in my not so great collection.

At your service.

Can someone please explain what Pinochle is (other than a game)? Also, are the Stud cards just an alternative or are they special, because on the Walgreens website it says they are a special 48 card deck. Thanks!

Um.... no. Or, better yet, yes. I have a few- will sell them for much less (say, $700 each- a steal!).

Pinochle is just a game that uses a a special deck. It has several duplicates and only consists of 48 cards as opposed to a 52 card poker deck. I imagine the reason there are several double blanks is because cards are cut out of sheets consisting of 56 spots (52 cards, 2 jokers, 2 ad cards). Another thing I like about studs is that in the regular poker deck the advertisement cards have the standard stud back on them so I can make a double backer without sacrificing the jokers or other cards.

Thank you, bill!
So there is a Stud deck is just an alt to a Standard Bike pack? Then they have a pinochle version of the Stud deck that matches the original one?
