My normal engagement is 2 or 3 days Smile
4 if I'm lucky.

Being an MC at Corporate Conferences makes up
the bulk of my work and allows me to perform
whatever I want, whenever it fits.

Dick,

I ran into this truism when I was asked to perform a show for a seniors group at a church. I have a children's show, an all-purpose show, mentalism show, church show and Christmas show. I discovered that I did not have one specifically designed for seniors. All of the shows I had would not fit, so I designed one that would accommodate this demographic.

When you are just starting out, a show is a show is a show. But as you get into it and try to develop an act, a lot more factors come to into play.

Depends on where you're performing. At the Magic Castle for instance it's a set time.
I work a lot of cruises & it's always different-maybe 15 minutes one night amd 40 a few nights later.
I agree with Mr Burger-I always try to do less time. No one complains if your act is too short but too long is rarely good.

From 30 minutes to 2 hours (which is my maximum time before either I start to believe my own press or they start throwing rotten tomatoes at my face...)

I don't know about my audience size... Maybe most of them leave their seats and go out after a few minutes but I don't even notice... because I cannot see past the first three rows of seats anyway...
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!

I saw my first stage mentalism show in Delhi...by a German group of 4 magicians. The mentalist did two acts(one before intermission and the other after) lasting 15 mins each.
The audience was about 500.
After the show as I talked to the mentalist...he enlightend me that his full show ran almost 2 hrs in Germany.
