Is this routine the same as Daryl's Acrobatic Knot?

Thanks, Al. Do you perform this? What are the reactions?

Yes, and it has been my experience that Daryl's "Acrobatic Knot" is a killer.
Daryl took Pavel's "Fantastic Knot" and made it his own.

Daryl purchased the "Fantastic Knot" from Pavel, which is the first half of the "Acrobatic Knot". He then added the gimmick, which was great.
I later found out that all of Daryl's gimmick moves he learned from George Sands, who really was a rope genius.

Mike Close has a good version of this in one of the Workers books. (Yes, I still read books. )

Close's version can be found in Workers Volume 3, called "Patter for Pavel's Fantastic Knot." However, as the name implies, it is just patter for the effect. To learn the inner workings, you still need either Pavel's Fantastic Knot or Daryl's Jumping Knot of Pakistan.

Get Daryl's Jumping Knot of Pakistan and disk from http://www.FoolerDoolers.com.
His disk lays it out and you could not find a more commercial effect. I'm into rope magic and doing Jumping Knot often bumps another favorite off my show list but it's that strong. I believe that (with my own patter) this effect won the last Magic Contest in which I competed. His patter is stronger. -Mary Mowder |

I have the original Pavel ropes and I'm wondering if all I need to do is purchase the DVD from Daryl. Or, does Daryl's version have something extra that I won't have in my original set?

Daryl has some real killer moves that as far as I know didn't come with Pavels. They are really convincers and foolers. Watch him slide the knot down the colored rope. Two different handlings that fool the heck out of the audience.
Daryl is a genius!

It is a great effect! I've been using it in my shows On & Off for 10 years.
I believe Pavel's Acrobatic Knot is a one rope effect if I remember. Both are great routines! I don't think Pavel's ropes are knitted like Daryl's, I believe they are sewn together. I also came up with a handling of my own for the knot transposition. I call it "Hyperknot",you can view a short clip of my knot transposition on my site:http://www.powerfulropemagic.com/ , the first trick on the video. Cheers! |

I'd like to switch to this for strolling for a while and give the PN a rest.
I've performed it once or twice and it's certainly good. Mike's presentation is great but it's ... way too many words to fit my style. Seems to suit him to a tee. I've never seen him do it.

In September Daryl performed as part of an event in Sacramento. (Night Magic organized by Mary Mowder and Tom Allen.) What he was doing here was his actual working repertoire, and The Jumping Knot was one of the things he did. He killed with it in all three shows, and I should know... as I had to follow him!

I had the distinct pleasure to perform for hundreds of kids for a few hours at a hotel where I live. HealthNet turned all the ballrooms of the hotel into "The North Pole". It was amazing. Games, food, santa, singing, playing, balloons, face painting, and moi.
This kind of gig is perfect for doing a brand new routine a billion times and that's exactly what I did with billiard balls, and with Daryl's Acrobatic Knot routine. When I started that morning, I didn't even use the gimmick at all. I just kept it in my pouch and did a shortened version of Daryl's routine, with hardly any patter at all. Then once I got the ball rolling and felt more comfortable tying the necessary knot quickly, I started adding the gimmick for the extra phase. Those kinds of shows are excellent for muscle memory development.

Does anyone know where to purchase the kind of rope that is used in this effect? Its very thick and soft - haven't been able to find a similar rope anywhere...
