I don't get this. Too much focus is given to the serial number as if it was the main effect that the serial number is still the same on the bill. Even on the video demo this shows. I mean you are supposed to be using their bill, so why should the serial no change?
Just my thoughts, but it feels like a lot of unnecessary attention is being given to the serial number. I am of the belief of keeping it simple whenever possible(Jay Sankey teachings). The effect should be the transformation and not the fact that the serial is the same throughout. Anyone understands what I am saying? If this needs a lot of work to prepare it's sooo not worth it.

Now that I think about it, perhaps it's just the way presented on the demo. I don't like that.

Most magicians, I think, don't like to hear that but that's the cold hard reality of it. That thought is going to go through a lot of laymen's minds, and most probably won't verbalize it. That's why having something signed or noted or having a date or serial number written down can really strengthen an effect like this because it cuts them off from ANY explanation. They don't have that "somehow he switched it" path to go down now. Saying "I don't know how or when but somehow you switched it" is no longer an option for them to satisfy what they just saw and put their mind at ease. Now they have NO explanation. Nothing they can imagine can explain what they just saw. That's my kind of magic. |

Bills are generally fungible, in that they more or less all look the same, so the serial number aspect seems pretty major, IMO, in the same way that signed cards are key to effects such as Paperclipped.

To the average layman, signed or not signed is generally irrelevant....

I do a signed burnt and restored borrowed bill using a TT and I've had it happen a couple times now that the spec wanted to write down the serial number. Thankfully I can let them, but I thought it was strange that signing it wasn't enough. When I asked one of them about this later, she said she thought that the fresh ink of her signature could somehow be transferred onto a different bill. Obviously a clever and paranoid spec, but it certainly highlights the importance of doing all we can to remove all possible explanations if we want to truly amaze and not just entertain. With my signed burnt and restored bill effect I've never had a spec point out that I don't let them examine the burnt bill before I restore it, but I'm sure some have thought about that fact. If I could actually let them do so, I'm sure it would strengthen the effect and I probably wouldn't have an interest in buying Serial Biller. I don't have a way to do this though, so Serial Biller is getting ordered shortly.

Serial Biller Review
First came Tagged, and now Serial Biller! Rich Ferguson has outdone himself these days after releasing the Card Stunts and Poker Chip DVDs. What you get with Serial Biller? I ordered the DVD/Download Combo and immediately saw the video. Size: 587 MB Length: A little over 2 hours. Variations: You get several. OK well first of all I live in Mexico, so I need to check if this is going to work over here. I don't want to say anything that will give it away but those of you that have it know what I am talking about. Anyway, the download first has several performances of Rich on the streets performing this effect in different situations and different routines. There is even a bit where the dollar gets restored and appears inside a spectators pocket! After the performances, Rich goes over every nuance, detail, and whatnot, and you decide which method works for you! Like I said, I need to check if this will work over here. So I will report back later, but for you folks in the USA, you got a real worker! Alex
PRESET by Alex Alejandro & Dan Harlan now available for a special introductory price!

I also purchased the DVD/Download and got to watch it right away.
I was very impressed with Rich's presentation and teaching abilities. He doesn't miss a beat. Although Rich does mention that pretty much any currenct would work. However, I am Canadian and our lowest currency in paper money is $5.00. So I am reluctant to tear up a $5 bill everytime I do this trick. You can do another version where you don't rip the bill, but you are still in a way destroying a bill. Rich mentions on the podcast that you don't have to be out a dollar everytime. You can always tape it back up. Rich seems to forget about the altered serial number on the currency.I don't feel good about using a bill that has had the serial number illegally altered to then put it back into circulation. The chances of getting caught are pretty slim I suppose, but still. I'd be very reluctant in using a bill that I've altered the serial number of. I just thought some of these points were worth mentioning. After listening to the podcast, I don't believe that I am exposing anything. This is a very good workable trick for anyone who can afford to perform it. The methods are simple and almost diabolic. I really liked the combination of Serial Biller and Tagged. I can see myself loosing $5 a shot when combining both these tricks because it would be so worth it. I would have to limit how many times I perform it though. I'm not a "Rich" man.

How practical is this? How much "practice" or "skill" is involved in mastering the effect?
Thanks so much! Mike |

Your presentation and timing should be practiced. Most moves are easy to learn.
Rich gives some very good advice on presentation and psychology. The handling's might already be something you know how to do, plus Rich adds a few other moves that are worth learning and doesn't take a lot of practice. However, with anything, we should always be practicing. There isn't anything that takes time to learn like let's say, the muscle pass.(lol) Rich breaks everything down in easy to learn directions. He offers so many different ways to present this that by the end you realize that you bought a dvd on very cool moves and handlings that you can apply to almost anything. It reminds me of buying lego when I was younger. The box would have a built object pictured on it for example, a truck. And inside the box were the lego pieces. You could build the object on the box, or you could build something entirely different. You could even combine pieces from different boxes to make something entirely new. It's the same with Serial Biller. And I can't forget the theory Rich brings. Just like on Tagged.(Rich in my opinion is one of the best teachers and creative magicians in the business today). This one is just too "Rich" for my blood to perform on a regular basis. (he, he) I got a whole bunch of them folks, and I'll be here all night.

I received the DVD S3RIALBILL3R this afternoon. After watching the teaser I did indeed have the theory figured out, but that doees not matter. It is not mentalism at all. Was reading the other posts. This could be some very good close up magic/street magic. I like it very much.

I got serial biller and my only problem is that, as of right now, it's not performable. What is required to get in order to do this trick is next to impossible it seems. I've been to many, many locations today, even non-conventional locations not mentioned in the video, and all say the same thing... that it's rare if ever they get the things you need to perform the effect.
It's really difficult to find what you HAVE to have to do the effect, and so even though I was impressed by the method and the ideas behind the effect, and impressed with the level of detail explained in the vid, when it comes down to it...as of right now its just impractical to get what you need to do it. The effect is good, but not worth all the trouble it would take to get the stuff needed. Unless there's something I'm missing and an easier way to get it. Branden Darcel

What is it that is impossible for you to get? If your bank was not able to provide you with what I think you may be referring to, then try another bank. It shouldn't be that hard in general to obtain from a bank.
If you are referring to a gimmick that is used, every magician should already have one. But, because I know it's easy to find, I don't think this is what you are talking about. I suppose I should also ask what country you live in. That may play a part of the reason why you are having trouble. I don't know for sure though. Sorry to hear that you having so much trouble. Like you said, it's a great effect.
