LOL all this talk about split screens and cgi.
Way to complicated. How about the stand the balls are on. Anyone think that it could be the key to the mystery? |

About the Bulgarian lottery subtopic from a page or two back.
I read today that these numbers bear a striking similarity to numbers made famous in the popular American television series, LOST: Lottery numbers ... 04-15-23-24-35-42 LOST numbers ... 04-08-15-16-23-42 The Bulgarian lottery officials have been insisting that the results of these draws in September were just coincidence. What hasn't been as widely reported is that the Bulgarian government launched a probe into corruption in the state lottery a year or two back, and Bulgarian prosecutors just last month were investigating allegations of corruption in the state lottery. If you can't trust the Bulgarian lottery, what can you trust?
Make America Great Again! - Trump in 2020 ... "We're a capitalistic society. I go into business, I don't make it, I go bankrupt. They're not going to bail me out. I've been on welfare and food stamps. Did anyone help me? No." - Craig T. Nelson, actor.

Bulgaria actually sounds like Buggeraria. Is that just a coincidence?

I'm working on my method every chance I get. The construction, while simple for anyone with some spare time and money, is difficult and drawn out when trying to squeeze it in between the various parts of starting a business.
I've done some preliminary testing, and it looks good, even in HD, but the videos I've made are the equivalent of a magician faking putting a ball under a cup, only to load it in secretly with the other hand; nothing actually appears to happen unless you're aware of the method. If I have some spare time, I will be working on the effect more, but I have to keep my priorities straight...especially in these economic times. -Nick |

So to bring everything up to date now that the Events series has finished. There never was a twist where he disproved that it was a camera trick - in fact, there was never any further reference to the lottery prediction at all.
We can now firmly rule out the idea that he wanted us to believe it was a camera trick, or that split screen was some cleverly planted pseudo method to be later disproved. There really was nothing more to it. The only reason it looked like a camera trick is because it was. |

Yes Caliban, it was all just camera tricks, anyone looking to replicate this effect could with a good friend who took a college level video editing course,
I know 1 thing, if I felt like watching camera tricks I'd watch jurassic park, at least the makers of jurassic park didn't think I was stupid enough to believe they filmed real dinosaurs, and I would have been amazed instead of angry |

James Randi did a Q&A via video link yesterday from the London TAM ('The Amazing Meeting'). He was asked about this trick:
What do you think about Derren Brown and his lottery trick? “I’m very fond of him. We’ve never met, but I have corresponded over the years.” But I think he made an error, or a faux pas, shall we say, in promising an explanation. The explanation offered was not an explanation. It was, though, fiendishly clever. Hats off to him. “That was very, very good Derren” |

Thought Id ressurect this thread in light of Derren's TV special last night, having seen talk of split screen and camera trickery(on muggles forums) has anyone definitively got the secret to the lottery trick? Not asking for the secret just curious.

So Captain Disillusion explored the split screen theory and it was pretty convincing to be honest (It's Part 5 of his TAM special on YouTube from like 2010). Doubt at this stage we'll get any new thinking on it, seems it's all been exhausted.
But Im more interested in seeing if Nick ever did perfect his own technique to answer the "it's a split screen" crowd |
