I have been asked by my local radio station to go on perform something and talk about Derren's lottery stunt tomorrow morning.

They want to know how such things are possible. Obviously I won't tell them - mostly because I doubt I will have a clue.

However what might a plausible story be?

How about something along the lines of the fairly common explanation (I first heard it used by Banachek) :

"he used his heightened sense of intuition and his 5 senses to create the illusion of a sixth sense.." (or something like that)

It looks like Derren is going to spill the beans on Friday anyway, so any explanation you give tomorrow will be redundant come Friday. I'd try and stay away from the subject and rather give plausible explanations for the things YOU do on air.

Which station and what time?

Anthony, I think the best is to hypnosis all the personn in the radio and make they think you're Derren himself but you wear a mask like in mission impossible The reason is because Gordon Brown wanted you to help the British economy.
The Gordon's idea is you going to play lottery in foreign country and win the maximum of money.
This money will be put in British economy.
Mr Brown becoming the new "messie" and you'll have a medal.

'The System' perhaps?

Since the trailer for the Event featured reversed time, you could joke that D.B. is pulling a "Merlin" and is simply living backwards through time.

Well its like Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver.. Both have wonderful signature dishes, and both could make either dish, but neither know exactly what goes into making it their own ..

I would think the major problem with this type of thing is that you could tip the method, even with no idea what the method is.

It will be interesting to see what he says on Friday night, you can be sure it will be fantastic.

As I'm quite new here, and not sure of the ins and out's I'll stop there. But I must say I love his "and this is how I did it" bits.

I'd tell go with somthing like "well, you and I saw the same thing, can I tell you how he did it? Not really. But I can demonstrate something similar" followed by an effect perfect for radio involving 6 numbers. I think you could use a version of Radio Sum Total nicely.

The ambiguity of "Not really" is nice and when I'm asked "can't or wont?" I generally reply "you decide, the result's the same" with a friendly smile. (can't remember where that's from now, or I'd credit the film)

I think even if Derren describes how he does things, that might necessarily not be the real method behind it. Think about his stage shows, for example Something Wicked... where he gives a plausible explanation to the audience which in reality most likely not is the method. After all it is a performance/showmanship.

It's based on a combination of mathematical probability and the fact that he has probably hacked into the computer bank at the Lottery Center.

Just make up something ridiculous...he did it all with wasps and holy mantras...

or just say "well, I don't know how derren achieved it, but I WOULD...." and then go into hypno and putting security guards under at drop-off points at banks etc...

He has a lucky pair of underwear.

I have a pretty good idea on his method.

Its simple really if you think about it.

I don't think any of us can really do much more than guess at this until we see it.
We don't really know the effect yet.


For all we know, and would this really be a surprise, he may stand there in front of the camera with a large sheet of paper, looks at it, and announce "Yes, that's exactly what I had. Stay with us for my brand new series whcih starts in 3 minutes."

I'm sure he won't though.
