You can only purchase this illusion through an authorized builder (John Gaughan or Wellington).

Hi Pambalini
I know, but can I buy the rights to build it myself? |

Hi, the plans are not available for this illusion. The Origami is only available from 2 licensed builders. John Gaughan in Los Angeles is one of those, I had emailed John recently on the Origami and he answered my questions on the price and availability. It's a brilliant illusion, not inexpensive, but well worth the price as Gaughan is one of the best in the world and Steinmeyer is a tremendous inventor. It's one of the few Stage Illusions that I still get really excited at seeing.
Wellington Enterprises also in the USA are the other official builder. They also make a lovely version with different features to the Gaughan prop. I would have a look at the wellingtonent.com to see their version. Best of luck with your magic. |

Can you believe this is still going on .. a quick search on the Origami Illusion will bring up hundreds of posts on this very subject.
The plans for this illusion are not published. This illusion has been carefully designed and constructed for professionals by Bill Smith and Bill Schmelk of Wellington Enterprises. Please leave this up to the professionals ... Steve |

And John Gaughan. Only those three are authorized. I did not know Bill Smith was authorized.

I think it's also just John Gaughan and Bill Schmeelk. I'm pretty sure Bill Smith doesn't build it. But I could be wrong.

Most people who buy or build a Origami by their own instead of an original don't know all the secrets. I have seen Origami's with bases that could hold a washing machine....

Be careful ; the angle of the camera play in this trick. Even a real one can appear a little chick if not presented at the right angle.

Jay,
An Origami does not use a true taper base. In the tape of Doug's the side panels under the top are a dark colour and blend into the bottom (underside) due to the camera angle. I believe it to be a Wellington by the design of the side pieces. Here is a link to their page with some good shots of it. http://www.wellingtonent.com/products/origami.html Both the camera angles, and even the screen (computer)you are looking at the Youtube video on, changes the perspective. Take a look at the Wellington images and then back to the videos. Blair (Doug's was a really thin unit, custom built for a very small girl. (Remember I don't think Doug was over 5'8")

The mirror is very important! I can´t understand why some don´t use it.

Blair,
I understand the bevel isn't always used. I also recognize those design elements you point out. I think it is safe to say we all think Christian Farla's Origami is meant to house a monster. But if you look at his you can clearly see the bevel design in the true silhouette shots. Rough... J |

The bevel is used to some degree in almost every model built under John Gaughan (Copperfield's being an exception), and certainly on every Wellington model I've ever seen.
It's all in the reflexes.
