Something amusing about the timing of Lorne Gunter's rant in the Calgary Herald about global warming / climate change ... right now Calgary is in the midst of an unseasonable heat wave. Today, the temperature is supposed to hit 34C / 93F ... which would beat the old record of 29.7C / 85.46F by a huge amount. This does not prove anything ... like I said, it is just amusing how bad Lorne's timing was.

I think I need clarification on what the debate actually is.
Are we debating whether climate change is real? It is. Are we debating whether pollution is bad? It is. Are we debating whether the two are related? Who cares? If we can agree that pollution is bad then we should obviously do it as little as possible. It just seems obvious. It doesn't matter whether climate change is the result of solar flares, tectonic shift, or killer leprechauns from space, there are other reasons that pollution is bad. Why inject this with partisanism? You don't have to be a liberal to think pollution is bad, look at Duck's Unlimited. They've protected more wetlands than Greenpeace and Earth First put together. But, I may not be grasping the overall intent of this discussion. Feel free to clarify.

Critter - of course climate change is real - that's why it's called weather.
Now as to what self important dolts can do to effect how billions of self interested people use energy as they see fit... well we already discussed the utility of nuclear power as applied to short term quick-fix solutions. The rest is just bandwagon for sheeple. Or is this your way of asking if anyone here has an extra jar of mint jelly?

Critter you are correct. Good call. Ducks Unltd is Conservation.
Conservation is SENSIBLE MANAGEMENT of wild resources through proper HANDS ON utilization. This includes Culling and Forestry and intelligent farming of the Oceans. Conservation is based on FACTS and EXPERIENCE and is not Hysterical or Reactionary if it is to be successful. Conservationists understand the true environments and the WEATHER and the needs of the wildlife and the countless circles of life that are interelated. They also take part in those 'circles' for their own livlihoods and pleasure. Then there are those who MEDDLE because it makes them feel good, clueless to the balance...but they 'heard' of it.

Have you noticed just how much a part of our world's ecology we are NOT?
We are making new people in test tubes and petri dishes and turkey basters. We are incubating them in tupperware We are making sure even those who could not survive in the wild are with us We are two generations into a state of fitness where 1/150 are autistic and about that many have severe food allergies. We are building homes in places which devastate and destroy the local life. We are not even returning our dead to the soil. And some of us are so deluded that they talk about nature as if they had a clue. Just wow. I wish it were a joke. And what many in our culture think of those peoples who have lived in places for tens of thousands of years ... is just astonishing as well. Please do send sitcoms and news into space to tell that joke.

ANYTHING you can learn in that course can be learned from books, museums and google...except the binge drinking.
Come with me to the Museum Of Man here in San Diego and I'll learn ya stuff, give ya a piece of paper and buy you a beer. No charge. .

Free beer?!?! We're on the next flight. No wait, the plane would pollute the air. OK, that's it we're walkin'. Doug, we'll be there in about 4 months. Put the cans on ice.

Not disagreeing with that.
I do think that anthropology 101 is a good start, better though would be service learning in a third world country. Degrees are funny things. Do you know that to become a forensic entomologist, you have to have already been a forensic entomologist for six years? I can't wrap my head around that one.
