Hey guys,
Was playing with Asi's book switcher which he just released. If you don't know Asi he is one of the best performers around, and this routine is great with an amazing gimmick. Has anyone seen it or had any ideas on applications for it? Any one who has seen him do this knows that it kills. SIX I think the video is up here http://thebookswitcher.com/Switcher/switcher_Trailer.html |

Parmenion I think you missed the part where I wanted to share ideas on the switcher itself.
Thanks, SIX Also, spoke with Asi and it appears they will be shipping soon, the manufacturer was delayed for some reason. |

So, the problem is nobody has this product yet, because it's not available yet.
How could we share some idea or alterantif handling about somthing we don't know ? As say a famous proverb " faut pas mettre la charrue avant les boeufs" anyway it's a good advertsing, I bought one to see what's it

I am not even clear as to what it does...
Could you clarify a bit?

Effect: A spectator chooses one book from a stack of books; then he chooses and tears out any page. The page is marked and burned. Finally the spectator finds the page restored and bound back in the book which he held throughout the routine. The book may be given as a souvenir.
Posted: Sep 24, 2009 2:56pm At first it looks like a Ted Lesley effect improved or a kind of pegasus page.

Well, since it is a magic trick and not mind reading or mentalism, shouldn't it be posted in Latest and Greatest?

Tony good observation, but its a mixture and falls into the mentalism field as per Corinda that's where the idea was generated from and Asi's gimmick is amazing to add to any mentalist's arsenal.

If you are referring to ZARKAMORTA II, that is a presentation of bizarre magic. Yes Corinda included it in 13 Steps, but at that time there was no separation of bizarre and mentalism, but that was 40 some-odd years ago, today they are recognized individually. At one time barbers were surgeons, that does not mean I would bet one operate on me in this day and age. I may, however allow my doctor to cut my hair. There isn't much there, and I'm not concerned with style (I use a Flobee now).
You are right, I know nothing more about this other than it is a torn and restored effect, and as you say, it may be "amazing to add to any mentalist's arsenal." Question: Can you produce a glass of whisky from it after the restoration? I used to do that with my newspaper tear. (Coffee in water looks good, but real whisky makes you feel better about the act, especially after 4 or five performances.) That was good mentalism. Forgive my suggestion. Tony |

Asi performed it this month at Magic in the Rockies. It pretty much fooled the whole room and the room didn't know it.

Assuming the description provided above by parmenion is accurate, what he has described is what I have referred to as a “resurrected page” booktest. Those who are familiar with booktests will know that there are many of that type and they generally differ only slightly from one another. Asi's would be just the latest in a long list and is, if my memory is correct, the only one that involves switching books.
Although their origin is most frequently traced to Annemann’s “Whim of Tituba” which can be found in his Jinx No. 67 of November 18, 1939 and again in Practical Mental Effects (1944),insofar as I have been able to ascertain, Herbert Milton's “A Page of Mystery” described in Vol. 6 of Percy Naldrett's Collected Magic Series published in October 1925, is indeed the first published example of such an effect, predating Annemann's Tituba by some 14 years. Sid Fleischman’s “The Trick Without A Name” which is found in J.G. Thompson, Jr.’s My Best published in 1945 and again in 1953, writing as Carl March, in Magic Made Easy predates Corinda’s “Zarkamorta II (The Ceremony of Reincarnation)” published (without attribution) in Thirteen Steps to Mentalism in the 1960s. It is quite likely that Corinda was influenced and/or inspired by either Annemann’s or Milton’s effect (or both). Since then many others have picked up the concept, adapted it to their own style and published their variations on the theme. Without going into a detailed explanation of each and how they differ from each other here is a chronology of the ones that I am aware of: Arthur Emerson presented his less ritualistic version of Zarkamorta at the Magic Circle in 1965 and later published it as “The Pegasus Page” in his The Third Evening at the Magic Circle lecture notes in 1970 and marketed it 1971 in partnership with the late Larry West. “Ashes to Ashes” by Ed “E. Raymond Carlyle” Fowler published in Bascom Jones’ MAGICK (#54, July 28, 1972) “The Sough of Horses’ Wings” by German mentalist Ted Lesley which he describes in his book Paramiracles (published in Germany in 1992 and in the US in 1994). “Never Trust A Demon” by Jim Magus from his Arcana of Bizarre Magick published in 1994 Docc Hilford’s 1995 “Brother Of All Book Tests” and a later version titled “The Wizard’s Manual” which I don't have, but understand is the same as Brother but uses a different paperback book. Also in 1995 England’s Roy Johnson, published “To Hell And Back,” a variation on his earlier “Hellfire 1 and 2” in Third Dimension (Goodliffe Publications), in his booklet titled Unique “The Roswell Effect” by Mark Edward published in 1997 in his book Restless Plots (the hardcover edition, not the undated soft-cover comb-bound edition) Italy’s Tony Binarelli revisited the theme in 2000 with “The Page of the Book Act” in his book My Way to Mentalism While in many of those effects the missing page is found in a sealed envelope, between two pieces of cardboard, or some other location, in at least one of them it is found back in the book — with no switch of the book required. Another effect which closely resembles “resurrected page” concept, although it does not involve the resurrection or restoration of the page, but does fit the context of mentalism, is the “Hateful Page” book test created by the UK’s Iain Dunford in 2007. Just thought folks should be aware of the history of the effect.

I was at Magic in the Rockies as well and watched ASI perform his book switcher. It is great and completely fooled me. I ordered mine immediately and highly recommend it.

Mr Christian, you are a veritable mine of useful information!
I believe that Charles Cameron's The Book of Demons from Castle Dracula Mentalism (Cameron, 1997, p.19) would be another example of a “resurrected page” booktest? s

Just to be clear, if this isn't asking too much: Is this essentially a device that will imperceptibly switch one book for another, identical-looking book?
I ask because, if its only use is making a burned page reappear in a book, I have no use for it. But if that's only one possible use, and it can switch books for other purposes, then that's a whole different story...
Every problem contains the seeds of its own solution. Unfortunately every problem also contains the seeds of an infinite number of non-solutions, so that first part really isn't super helpful.
