I have also seen the show, and at the time of the "date miss" I most certainly thought it was for real, and that he had, shall we say, messed up. Most of the audience thought the same, as you could tell from there sympathetic "ahhh" when it wrong for the 2nd time, and also Derren's slight acting of confusement.
But his timing was to perfection when he moved onto the later act and well you'll know what I mean if you've seen the show. He really is pure gold to watch. |

Mr. MagicSquare,
It most certainly did come across that way to me at the time. I may have even cursed with surprise... I was speculating whether or not it was a merry coincidence. Thinking about it now, I believe that the structuring of Derren's show was so diabolically clever that I was a fool for suspecting coincidence. I honestly don't know when to believe him and when not to. But I think I like it like that. Mr. Mesaboogie, I completely agree with everything you have said. Theatrical beauty. Absolutely.
Hello.

Promethee - It's intended that the show will be continuing with a run at a theatre in the West End of London this autumn. So presumably a ban on detailed descriptions of act II is still in force until that run comes to an end.
My review of the show is on the thread "Who is Derren Brown?" in this section of the Magic Café. In accordance with the performer's express wishes, the review of act I is detailed while the review of act II is deliberately written as vaguely as possible. Understandably, DB wants magicians attending the show to enjoy act II without knowing what is coming up in it. If and when the ban is explicitly lifted (presumably after the end of the London run), I'd be willing to write an detailed description of it (having now seen the show three times). However, until any such lifting, this unusual extension of the principle "Indocilis privata locqui" will be presumed to continue to apply. |
