The guy at the magic shop was showing me a move where he opened the box (full of coins) with the hand the box was in and deposited the box, lid and coins on the table, all with the same hand, all in one motion, and a coin hidden under the lid. Any idea what this move is called and where I could learn this?

He also do this with a single coin in the box, meaning he ended up with the coin under the lid and everyone thinking it was empty. ?

I used to do a move where I lifted the lid away from the box in my left hand with the fingers of the left hand so that the lid was seen empty. Then I would take the box in my right hand and dump the coins out while my left hand placed the lid with hidden coin on the table, followed by the box with the hands clean. I could do this with one hand, I guess -- but fail to see any advantage. It would be a flourish of sorts and detract from simply displaying the items to be used while concealing a coin. I don't know the name -- just started doing it by fumbling around (yes, I use a Boston Box.
So, why would you wish to do this?

You might wasnt to reference David Roth's Expert Coin Magic book, as there is an entire section on coin box magic. He also has a DVD just on coin box magic, but I don't remember which one. Many Okito coin box routines and moves can be found in the New York Coin Magic Seminar DVD series, and Doug Brewer has just come out with a book of new routines, called Coin Box Killers.
S.E.M. (The Sun, the Moon, and the Earth) is a sun and moon routine unlike any other. Limited to 100 sets, here is the promo:

I think Mike Gallo covers this move on the most recent NYCMS DVD's, in the bonus section.

One of David Roth's Ultimate Coin Magic series DVD covers coin boxes, and is a must-have. Now I don't remember which one it is. You'll find whatever you need there.

Doug Brewer's latest book, "Coin Box Killers" is unbelievably good. Check it out here:
http://home.att.net/~jazzmagic/products/books.html To get David Roth's best work with an Okito box set, you have to buy his Okito box set. It's wonderful to use and the manual that comes with the set is fantastic. For the David Roth Coin Box Set and Manual: http://www.newyorkcoinmagic.net/roth.htm Scroll down that page about 3/4's of the way down and you'll find the Roth Coin Box set. Very well made Okitos for sure! Reading is a good thing. dsalley13 |
