I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned this: if you are planning on doing a CT, you should invest in Richard Osterlinds manuscript, it eliminates the need for the kind of misdirection being discussed. I use his CT, then just hand them all the little pieces to hold. What little misdirection is required during the tear I get from having them hold their hand out.

It's genius, many thanks for sharing it Richard.

Of course, this insight is of no use if you are working out of Corinda: of the ideas listed above, the clipboard / notepad is perhaps the most congruent, you can easily sneak the paper onto the clipboard then stare at it all you like!

Your shredder idea is nice too, but why not just switch the billet before you shred, with no tear?

Just some random thoughts!

The shredder is a bit of overkill. Not a bad idea though , just doesn't fit here . Depending on the method of CT you are using will depend on the best way to get rid of the pieces. If you are using an instant method such as Osterlinds and not one that has to be done later you can simply tear it up and place it back in their hands. Maybe for effect how your hands tightly around their closed fist containing the information and go from there. When they tell people about it later they will say it was in their hand and no way you could have seen it. but with that being said , I have used various methods numerous times and have never had the problem of anyone worrying about the pieces afterwards. Noone picking them up trying to see if they are all there etc. Not to say that won't happen I am sure it eventually will but it hasn't for me yet. I think the main thing is not to draw attention to the CT in the first place. Place all the attention on "reading their mind". Keep the presentation simple and direct. If you take a look at Richard Osterlind performing this multipul times on some of his older dvd sets , he never gives a drawn out explaination to the spectator as to why right it down. Just do it and don't make a big deal of it and no one will question it. I think if you say things like "if you right this down it will better implant the image in your mind" etc they draw to much attention. Sorry I could go on all day about this. I am one of those who believe that if done properly with the attention in all the right places , people will likely forget they ever wrote anything down anyway , but I guess it is not always a perfect world haha . Good luck to you though and get up the creative thinking.

Thanks, fellows.

Fact is that "instant center tears" don't work for me. Too much guilt, I suppose. And though the clipboard would clearly work, it doesn't fit my persona.

The classic tear was perfect as it was. Alas, while the smoking ban perhaps saved some lungs, it truely spoiled the CT for me !
