Derren and his team have created some classic tv mentalism. Its a shame they don't know when to give it a rest. Its badly needed. Instead they go down a different route and destroy all the things they achieved in the past. After a few days rest in a clinic somewhere quiet perhaps they will come to their senses. |

Mindpunisher, I dig your posts, I like how you tell it like it is.
I always hear why run if your not being chased, less often I hear if its not broken don't fix it! Kreskin always has and always will be a success, he found a formula that worked and stuck with it for almost his entire life, You know, this reminds me of when Michael Jordan decided to quit basketball to play baseball, or was it golf, or was it Michael jordan? Whoever it was.. I understand professional have an inner desire to grow and evolve as artists, I know AC/DC feels the same way and they have sounded the exact same for over 40 years! I mean, what happened here is a tragedy, its like Jimi Hendrix quitting guitar to play the flute, Derren started as a magician, expressed his distain for that style of presentation, INVENTED SOMETHING COMPLETELY new and original that he could call his own, THEN, in an act of counter productivity chose to revert back to what he knows best, magic, and hes a fantastic magician, I felt he was a better mentalist. But whats the point in crying over spilt milk? |

Wow, I thought that was brilliant! Much more entertaining than the whole events series put together. Maybe he can inject more comedy into his new work.

Stop while you are ahead. The end of a career in enevitable. However the demise of a person is avoidable.
Take time out and come back stronger. Reminds me of Mohamid Ali. Was sad to see him continue when could no longer sustain the quality of boxing he used to. And the damage it caused him. Many get out while they are still at the top. If you look at he quality of the older shows back then they wouldn't have dreamed of doing what they do now. Something has been lost along the way. Perhaps it is the sophistication phase of the market. Where they need to keep coming up with something more incredible to satisfy it. There comes a point where it is unbelievable. Plus theres the exposing psychics element and increasing "I'm only a magician" stance that also takes some of the impact away from the mentalism. It happens in advertising and marketing. I think that's what may have happened here. Of course it might not be the end. But it is the end of the derren we used to know. |
