I never said you said that, I have also said not much about Marion at all, and the points I made had nothing to do with his reasons for his magic.
As I would say to anyone, feel free to work on the level on which you're most comfortable. |

feel free to work on the level on which you're most comfortable. Then how is one to grow? Magic is about taking one out of a comfort zone and considering what was not possible before. If you get a packet trick it is still possible to develope a new presentaion or story. If you get a gaffed coin it can either build a fence around you or open the gates to entriely new uses. I avoided doing a 3Fly effect because I physically can't do the sleights -- not "comfortable." Marion offered several things: a desire to engage the audience rather than demonstrate skill, a price I can afford, both written and video instructions, and support communications. As a result of the interaction with his download and him, I have substituted moves and sleights I can do -- and developed a couple of new ones. Mine do not look like his, but never would have existed without his assistance, or if I only did what was "conmfortable." Different? Level? Try a 3Fly with three different, examined coins that transport independently. Try a 3Fly in which your hands never touch and are completely displayed between transports. Try a 3Fly using candy kisses or almonds or borrowed quarters or pocker chips off a strange table. Do these with hands that cramp with pain and thumbs that lock. What in the word does "comfort" have to do with magic? Thanks Marion and Tim and Vinnie for encouraging me to try -- and succeed!

Thanks for the laugh, cperkins, "Fur Fly" rocks...
Thanks for the nudge, funsway, my arthritic thumbs are telling me to get this version... This has been a good debate, and like Vinny, I see valid points on both sides. To me, the hamburger analogy is a bit off. I believe Mb is not selling another hamburger, he is teaching one HOW to make a hamburger, and therein lies a compelling difference. They say the devil is in the details, but so, sometimes, is the light. If I threw away every book, DVD, or download that taught me nothing, I would still retain most, if not all, of my collection. Almost always, there is a pearl worth the dive. For me, a better, easier, more natural, etc. technique is well worth a modest price to learn. My latest proof of this is Tim's coin flourish. The final coin vanish alone was worth the purchase for me... Mb... thanks for all you add... you really should consider changing to that "Fur" title... Jim

Thanks guys for all the kind words and levels of perspective. I never claimed that My Fly was anything but what it is and got sorta blasted for what others thought it should be, if it should be at all. That's what the peanut gallery is all about when you go out there, some will like what you do and some will not and that's OK too. I've never stopped smiling through any of it, just kept moving forward and getting better, like a rock being smoothed and jeweled in a rock tumbler. So many good thoughts here pro and con and both hands help make the bread. Can't help but think of politics here as no matter what one side says the other sides finds a way to say the action isn't good enough, never should've been done, won't work and even "I hope he fails." WOW! What a world.
Just the same I'm already out the box with another NEW giddy-up... Be on the look out for my "3 Coin PRO." And expect some of the same from the peanut gallery as to cheers and jeers. I just hope people, like mandarin commented, that people make their own dive for that pearl and don't let others persuade you that there's nothing of value down there. Each oyster must be opened individually for its treasure. Hey tonight is the BIG company Christmas Party at one of the big hotels around the Time Square area here in New York City...Ever been to a big party in NYC, it's the best! It's going to be a wonderful event as it always is with hundreds and hundreds of people. And they don't know yet that one of its stars will be me after tonight... I'm packed for bear, got my coins and things ready to go. I'll be doing a little of this and a little of that with my Grandpa's Coins. But looking now mostly to try out in a grand way my NEW "3 Coin PRO" as an opening into "3asy Does It" and beyond. I've been sewing together different components of my works and find that they all fit one to the other very neatly. I'm pumped and quite ready to enjoy the night and spread mounds of impromptu magic and good cheer throughout the crowds. I've been doing magic around my company for years on the fly, so everyone knows me and expect a little sumthin', sumthin', which I will graciously give. Some have already dropped by my office to make the requests. Man I feel good and just so thankful that long ago the Godfather, Vinny Marini told me to learn the sleights well and make the magic for yourself. Thanks Godfather. I got my Grandpa's Coins, that's all I need as everything else I've come to realize is magically in me. Oh what a night...I can't wait.

Then how is one to grow? You're just speaking common sense. Quit it. I'll submit, though, that magic is not about taking one out of a comfort zone and considering what was not possible before. Mastery is about taking one out of a comfort zone and considering what was not possible before. Living a successful and self-actualized life is about taking one out of a comfort zone and considering what was not possible before. Magic is merely a subset of that larger activity. But not everyone is truly interested, and we can't dictate priorities. All we can do is put it out there. |

Man oh man, what a night... Great Holiday Party and I made my way through hordes of people, some I knew and some I didn't but everywhere I stopped to wish good cheer I asked if anyone had seen this old coin my Grandpa gave me long ago. That was the magic portal and everytime it let me in and I WOWWED them!
To let you know, my new 3 Coin PRO just works splendidly in opening into other effects. I'm just using 3 coins right up close people all about me most times and it's doing the job like no one's business. It was uncanny watching the amazement in their faces every step of the way through this and that. I did My Fly a few times and people kept thinking that perhaps they had had a little too much to drink, or that they needed a drink... Hey Mick, the ladies love the Blow Change. And my new "Spell" (coming soon) is killer up close and just a mini-treatise on audience management. Just took one closeup effect with me to break up the coins and that was Scott Guinn's "Assertive Positive Negative." An amazing little mental trick that just blows everybody away. I highly recommend it. And for you guys that are coins only, well it uses invisible coins. I got a few offers to do magic for others but I was having so much fun and being turned this way and that by people wanting to see magic right up close. Man people spilled drinks all night long. Had so much fun playing with the bar tenders that he started messing up drinks. He wanted my number to learn how he might incorporate magic in his bar tending. Think when I did BLAST for him with his glass it just blew him away! I only had a few choice coins on me but I had all I needed and that's what they got and loved it. I love working the audience, there's nothing like just stepping into their realities and taking them on a magic carpet ride. The other entertainment there kept asking if I was with their company... So now I've done NYC bigtime and she is mine. Man I felt so confident in everything I did and it all worked well, all night long.

"I have done it -- she is mine"
could be a slogan or a USP ansd answers the question, "What is the best effect to do in a crowd?" "The one you just did!"
