I just read "The Business of Stage Hypnosis Volume 1: The Best of the Stage Hypnosis Center" by Geoffrey Ronning and Chris Frolic and must say that this book is definitely one of the best investments I've made in a long time. What it's not is a how to hypnotize book. What it is, though, is a hugh collection of content from the members only website for stage hypnotists worldwide http://www.stagehypnosiscenter.com
For those who are regulars on the website, there is much new content that has never appeared on the website. The book covers everything you'd possibly want or need to know about running a successful stage hypnosis business from articles on performance issues, booking strategies, and business philosophy to BOR (selling products like dvd's and cd's for extra income). There's nothing missed here. If it has to do with the business of stage hypnosis, it's in this book. Whether you a new stage hypnotist wanting to jump start your business or an experienced one who wants to increase your business and bookings, this is a must read. No, I don't work for the authors nor was I asked to write this post. I'm just very impressed with this book. The book is available at http://www.stagehypnosiscenter.com/products/item211.cfm or at http://www.amazon.com/Business-Stage-Hyp......8&sr=1-2

I'm going to assume you're not a shill and simply like the book and want to share your excitement over it. Unfortunately, as written, you've produced more of an ad than an actual reason to buy.
How about sharing: 1) What are some of the great articles in it? 2) What, specifically, are some of the things you learned from it? 3) How will you put the information you learned into practice? 4) Where do you disagree with or question the content? 5) Do you have Ronning's Guide to Modern Stage Hypnosis? If so, how does the content of this book overlap, repeat, or contradict what's in the book you're describing? 6) Have you used other sources for info on stage hypnosis business? How does this compare? 7) Is this only applicable to the U.S. market or will it apply in other countries? |

Sorry that you took offense. As I said, I'm just impressed with the book. And yes, I do hope the two authors sell a lot of books. Am I advertising? Not intending to. Call it what you want. I'm just expressing my opinion.

No offense taken, Bill. I just wanted to know more!
IMO, if anyone is doing a review, they should follow the 5 Ws of journalism: Who What When Where Why and hoW. You've described Who. You've implied when and where. That leaves what, how and why. Those are the questions I wish you would answer. What's in it? How is it different from other books? Why should I get it as compared to other books? I get that you're impressed. I think that's great! Tell us more! What, How, and Why, please. |

Why don't you ask him to scan it in a pdf and send it to you?
If you look it up on amazon you get a good peek inside. It looks like it covers a lot. Not sure how much would apply to UK or scotland even.. |

Sorry for the delay gentlemen, I've been away the past day or so. Here is an 40 page
from the book which includes the table of contents: http://issuu.com/geoffronning/docs/stage......arketing It should give you as pretty good idea of what's covered. I liked it because it presented a lot of practical business ideas pertaining to promotion and actually getting bookings. I'm relatively new to stage hypnosis and I found it a wealth of information. Perhaps some of you may see it different. I have also read Ronnings Guide To Modern Stage Hypnosis which I also liked but it deals primarily with the basics of hypnosis, putting on a show, and a little about marketing. This book, however, deals almost exclusively with running a successful stage hypnosis business. Although I may not be knowledgeable enough to comment, I would think that the book's information could apply to countries outside the U.S. as well. Overall, a great book, in my humble opinion. By the way, I have had the advantage of learning some things here also and I appreciate the assistance. I especially appreciate and value the help I've received from MindPunisher. He's been a mentor.

Sorry, Bill, I don't want to be a mentor for you or anyone else.
Your first post was pure rah-rah. I was looking for why. Your next post was a bit better, but still shy for the details. Apparently, like Mark, you have difficulty understanding the difference between de facto ads, repeating what's in a book, and doing an actual review. I have nothing against rah-rah. I'd just like to see it supported with information. You said, "it presented a lot of practical business ideas." Fine. How is it better, the same, or not as good as a book by a business specialist with business ideas? What books do you compare it to concerning other business ideas? Have you put any of those ideas into practice? If not, how do you know they're good? Thank you for differentiating between this book and Ronning's other book. It was clear and specific. Well done. FYI, I have Ronning's other book. I haven't done a review of it yet as I haven't finished it. So far, I'm impressed with it, but I'll go into more details when finished. One important aspect of such a review is that a lot of people have suggested ignoring Ormond McGill's New Encyclopedia and preferring Ronning's book. Unless Ronning's books suddenly falls apart in the second half, I'm going to be taking a position why both are valuable and that one doesn't replace the other. When I was 8 years old, I wrote book reviews for my 3rd grade class that said "I liked this book because it was interesting." Today, when contemplating buying a book, I look for reviews that are more than that. I was hoping your description would be more of a complete review. Since you read it, I hoped it would be a good review. I still hope you will give a complete review. |

Thank you Mark. Very well put. I couldn't agree with you more. You're being very polite when you call his droning "petty tittle tattle. I actually feel sorry for him. He wants so badly to "fit in".

Yes, Mark. I understand you have no conception of what a book review is. That's okay. Don't fret about it. And as Bill shows, this is exactly what I said.
Nice try at pseudopsychoanalysis,Bill. Unfortunately, like your attempt to "review" a book, you're a failure at that, too. But keep trying. Keep throwing stuff out. Maybe some year you'll get within striking range of accurate. |

LOL! Nice try, Mark. You're not going to lower yourself to get into a childish argument and then you drop a childish insult. If you don't want to get involved, stay out.
Bill, perhaps some year you'll learn how to do a book review that is of value to intelligent adults instead of children. Good luck on that. |
