This is a new area of magic to me, so I ask the question:
What is the best newspaper headline prediction effect to date? |

Be prepared to hear a lot of people asking you what type of show do you want to do this for and look in Corindas 13 steps and it's different for everyone or how much money are you willing to spend.

Wulfie,
The only answer to any "What's the best . . . " effect is, "It depends" -- on your persona, style, skill level, the audience, the venue, the context and a host of other factors. Without knowing that, no one can possibly answer your question and (forgive me for saying so but) if you don't know the answers to THOSE questions then YOU'RE not ready to be asking "What's the best . . ."

I am not against asking those questions, I just know that's what would happen since he didn't specify any of that in his post. That's all.

I'm not against anyone asking questions either. But "What's the best?" questions with no qualifying information have no answer -- at least no answer that makes any sense. (Although that seldom discourages subscribers who don't know any more than the person who posted the question in the first place from offering meaningless sugggestions.)

Somehow these topics always make me think of Busytown books:

If you want a very fair and strong prediction effect ... with a newspaper, check out Marc DeSouza effect on his new mentalism CD. It is caller Newpaper Prediction.
It is a varation on a classic, but Marc has some clever ideas and a very clean handling. Also, I have used my SNIPPER to force a line of text in either a prediction routine or an influencing routine. I believe SNIPPER is cleaner/easier. But Marc's handling is simple enough to learn for anyone who has performed for a few years. But the impact of Marc's routine is stronger than SNIPPER because the "predition" comes from more words. If I was adding material to my act, I WOULD add Marc's handling. It is very strong. For ease of handling for me, it is a version of Koran's newspaper test. You can find it on Richard Osterlind's ETMMM vol # 2 dvd.

My personal favorite is Carlyle's "Butter Tub" prediction.

I like to use master prediction system, also a simple method from Mr. Mysterio, on his book, Mysterio's encyclopedia of magic and conjuring

I've seen Human Lotta Prediction live for a few times. It's a real time solo act blend with what's happening during the show and news headline prediction. That's gotta be the best I've seen...

I used Fogel's 'Headline Hunter' for many years. It was the climax to my act with The Clairvoyant Chicken - the predicted line of newsprint being found inside an egg the hen had laid that morning.

Jim Steinmeyer has a decent version that was first published in Magic Magazine (January 1994). As well as The Conjuring Anthology pg. 84-89.
You also may want to check out Devin Knight's Glass Box. I believe it runs about 85 bucks. And I have heard very good things about it. I'm sorry folks are giving you such a hard time. I believe your asking what OTHERS opinions are, concerning their likes & dislikes. At least that's the impression I get from your OP. Personally, I think the cleanest version is the Master Prediction System. Only problem is that is 3 grand.. :-( Of course, I have accomplished the same effect, using only a stool. But that's a whole different topic.. Good Luck! |

A very easy but effective "Headline Effect" is from Larry Becker. I have used this several times and the reactions are great. Paul

Not a "headline" but in my opinion the best prediction with a newspaper is Tim Conover's.
Second place goes to MY newspaper prediction (but on this one I am very biased).
Then you'll rise right before my eyes, on wings that fill the sky, like a phoenix rising!
