There are so many good rope tricks.
Plays big, packs flat. Is it possible to do an "All Rope" show? Would it be too repetitious? |

I do this very often I do a cut and restored then go into ring and ropes or finger ring and string and finally if I'm doing a show for a young audience I will always teach several simple rope tricks. Hopefully there's a youngster out in the audience who is interested in magic this will help him or her.
vinny pm me if you would like to rap on this subject |

I do this one time in cabaret or club situations or if doing MC work. I have some times done 15-20 min with 2 meters of rope and it works great.

An all-rope show?! How boring!

When I was starting out, rope was pretty much all I had and so, yes, I did. And it went like this:

Erdenac, a French magician working cabaret's does a fabulous all rope act. Very classy, and entertaining.
I thought of a concept, I have only taken notes on it and have not tried it out... but... Concepts for the Professor's Nightmare are tough to come up with. I thought you could say these ropes are used as training aids for medical students. Show the short piece, "This represents the appendix." Show medium piece, "This represents the colon." Show long piece, "And this represents the small intestine." "A good surgeon should be able to recognize them, and can take all three parts, put them together and save the patient." Take it from there...

Mr. Pete Biro your sense of humor and your line of thinking outside the box is just amazing! I couldn't stop laughing for a long time after reading your above post.
I'm like Whit Hadyn, when are you going to take the time to write that book. Thanks again for all the great ideas and especially the "words of wisdom."
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

I used to use Professor's Nightmare as a philosophy demonstration, talking about the real world vs the ideal world (and probably somewhere in the Café, a record of that still exists)...
Why not?

Hahah, that's great. You could maybe use Pavel's version of professors nightmare to then convert the illusionary 2 equal pieces to 2 separate equal pieces (hopefully this doesn't say too much...if so, I'll delete this post) and then say while this may look like an illusion, sometimes even dreams can come true (or something to that effect)

I have seen several fine rope acts over the years and am always thrilled with the creativity of rope magicians. I myself do 15 minutes with rope in my stage show. Its a fun routine and rope is fun to work with. definatley not boring.

Yes I have, using for the most part; other than Professor Cheers, effects and methods Ideveloped myself. Even Aldo uses some of my effects. An all rope act boring? Not it has variety and is presented well

I also like to do rope magic a lot, so I also wondered how to bring a maximum diversity of tricks with rope being the "thread" of the act. I came up with similar ideas to those posted by Matthew:
- Cut and Restored Rope (obviously) - Card on Rope (where a chosen card ends up tied onto the end of the rope) - some escapology-type of trick (like having your hands tied to your legs) - Rope Through Neck (or some other penetration effect) - Some knot routine (like Pavel's Fantastic Knot or from Tabary's tapes) - Ring and Rope or Finger Ring and Rope (Ring and String) - The Chinese Laundryman (as performed by Daryl on his rope videos) I don't think a rope-only performance has to be boring, as long as the basic effects/premises/plots vary. Some of the tricks listed are quite similar (like "The Chinese Laundryman" and "Rope Through Neck", which are both penetration effects), but different patter can help here. Rope does not actually have to be the primary object of the trick (like in "Card on Rope"), but can still act as the link between the tricks. Coming to think of it: I forgot the Linking Ropes ... Just my 2 Cents ... |

Yes, I have a seven-minute rope routine that I won a contest with about twenty-five years ago. It is great for civic groups, night clubs, sales meetings, job interviews, TV interviews, magic show pomotionals and MC bits, etc.
What I like about it is that I just carry rope and shears. I'm ready to go promoting all day long. Bob Magic By Sander |
