Sorry, this handling of the routine belongs to David Williamson. It is not yours to borrow just because it is on YouTube. Contact David Williamson for the performing rights, and offer a good price for the privilege.
The trick is Bob Ostin's Submarine Card. He published a book last year, I believe it was, 'A Lifetime of Magical Inventions'. Just buy the book and you have the trick. Or Submarine Card is or was available from Stevens Magic. This is the lead-in to the Submarine Card Trick penetration. I was doing this back in the 1970's, it is a Ken Brooke exclusive trick done close-up, actually. Williamson changed it to jumbo cards that is all. I find it interesting that something is out there for years and it is not considered any good until they see someone else be creative with the trick, and in most cases it is in a drawer waiting silently to be used. I don't think many could get away with David Williamson's presentation, yelling at an audience, not many people can pull off. This was probably at a magic convention, as Dave Williamson has stated in interviews he does not use this persona when he is working for the paying public. I could not read the language on screen, so I am only guessing at this. |

He never even said he was going to attempt the trick he posted. He just posted an example of effects he liked...

Kevin said that he was simply looking for effects to get the entire audience involved such as the one that is posted. He never said he was going to perform that specific one. He's just simply looking for our help. Unfortunately, I don't know of any effects to get the entire audience involved.

Off the top of my head the only thing that comes up is "Fusillade" by Paul Cummins & Doc Eason. Here you can have up to 20 or so people select a card therefore many in the audience are involved.

You could do the "stunt" of everybody putting their hands together and not succeeding to move them in a half circle besides you (or whatever this effect is professionally called).

I think the Williamson routine is actually "Vernon's Variant" from Dai Vernon's Ultimate Card Secrets by Lewis Ganson. Ganson describes doing it for up to 13 people--using a single deck of cards. But the handling and routine is the same.

We use a number of effects that do not have any props involved at all.
These include rythmic clapping or some other type of body movement. The audience is often divided up into sections or groups (they never move from their seats)and directed from the stage by myself. The surprise is the end effect after I put them all in order and they realize that they have created something. This works particularly well in large theatres where you have hundreds of people. |

Look at the first item here called, "The Sausage Finger Illusion"
When I do this, I have everyone in the audience doing the illusion at the same time. Geoff Williams has been on lecture tour throughout the US and recently in Australia, and based on his sales of the item, it seems to be a hit.

According to the instruction sheet, Jimmy Boyd of Glenrothes, Scotland showed it to Bob Ostin. It further states Jimmy Boyd was on vacation in Chicago, IL, and met Ed Brown who showed it to him. Jimmy Boyd added the Elmsley Count to the handling. This was around 1967 when Ken Brooke wrote to Jimmy for the information to further clarify the origin. |

I'll second Michael's Sausage Illusion. Saw Geoff do this at the PCAM. It is in effect a close up trick (the optical illusion happens for the individual)on stage with a nice finish.
I have a friend who uses the entire audience to "vote" on several selections to get down to one final choice. I saw Chris Capehart do a version of Jerry Andrus' Tri-Zonal Space Warper attached to a battery driven electric drill. I think I have seen them advertised. Maybe someone else knows?

The best audience involvement trick that I know of is Kalver's Incredible Shrinking and Growing Head Illusion

FYI - Geoff Williams has a killer tweak finish to the Growing & Shrinking Head, also. It is his bit, and obviously not to be used without permission, but worth seeing, none-the-less.
