Sawing them in half would be ideal, but difficult to achieve, I'd guess, not knowing their dimensions ahead of time. Still, if someone could point me in the right direction for something like that, that would be ideal!
I'd also be curious about places to look if I wanted somebody stabbed, decapitated, electrocuted, or what have you. I know very little about the world of illusion so any pointers would be helpful. Oh, and don't worry, it's not for anything to do with Halloween, it's for a show next year--I'm not that crazy. -Travis |

Audience Acupuncture by Jim Steinmeyer will cut an audience member in half. Bill Smith owns the building rights. Here it is in performance..
http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NZJUGulez_Q......v-google Also, Tim Clothier has an illusion in his book "Advanced Illusion Projects" where you burn a person from the audience, and turn them into a charred skeleton. His book can be found here.. http://www.illusionprojects.com/ And Dream-Concepts has an effect called "The Execution". It is an electric chair that can be used to vanish an audience member. I'm not sure about this effect though. It sounds a little to good to be true, and is most likely not very practical. Also, I have heard some pretty bad stories about Dream-Concepts. Run a search here and do a little research about them before you purchase anything from them. Here is the link to "The Execution". http://www.dream-concepts.com/2008/index......etail=45 I hope this helps. Good Luck! |

Fantastic. Thank you for the help! I'm really, really ignorant about the field of illusion, but I'm slowly getting more into it as various projects keep coming up that seem to require it. I've performed a spirit cabinet a couple of times this year--once with great success --and loved it.
BTW, while I'm here, what is a good starting point, book wise, for someone getting into the field of illusion? Something that will get me off on the right foot. Or am I asking the right question? -Travis |

Harbin visible sawing. It serves the purpose you are looking for.

Yes, visible sawing would be a good pick. Wellington makes a very nice version, as they always do.

If you are looking for books with illusions see Osborne, Harbin, and some of the others.
If you are looking for illusions and how to present them, explanation, and theory behind what an illusion should accomplish see the 3 DVD set by The Pendragrons as it is excellent.
Be remembered for performing what looks like MAGIC, not skill.

Paul Osbourne's Books are definitely the way to go, if your planning on building your own illusions. If you would like a little more detail about the steps I took to becoming an Illusionist, feel free to PM me.

I just talked to Bill Smith yesterday about the audience acupuncture. 6500 bucks...OUCH!!! For some reason, I thought audience acupuncture was an illusion that was included in one of Steinmeyer's previous books.

Plus an ATA case and shipping, I'm highly considering Audience Acupuncture it's a great prop. I hope to put it in the show early 2010!

I think it's a great prop as well. It gives so much to ones show: Comedy, Audience Participation, and a great illusion as well! Mr. Smith said there is about a 3 month turn around time for one.

The illusion shown on youtube (indicated by Aaron smith)where is cut an audience member in half is not the Audience Acupuncture but the Audience Dis-member and it is build by Bill Smith too.
Are two different illusions both with audience partecipation. Alberto Giorgi |

You are correct Alberto, my mistake. Audience Dis-Member is th aformentioned Illusion. This is more what the audience acupunture looks like...

I saw "Audience Acupunture" performed by "The Spencers" a few years ago when they came through Oregon. It was a definate crowd pleaser! The lady that came up there was so enamored with Kevin and she couldn't stop flirting. She may have been a little tipsy too, from what I remember. It was hilarious. His wife Wendy played it up real good too, acting real jealous. The whole audience was laughing their butts off.

Criss angels version requires stooges and movie magic
and the Copperfield version can't be done with an audience member but they'd both be totally sweet if they were practical and could be done without stooges and cameras!!! |
