Last year I did a show at these very nice people's house for about 30 kids. And their 4 year old was dressed as Spiderman. Wellll good ol Spiderman was laughing so hard that right there in the front row he sort of released himself in his costume. The best part, if there was one, was that he didn't seem to care too much! He was still laughing just as hard as his mother helped him to the bathroom to clean up.
Moral?
Every super hero has a weakness.
Spiderman's is the Ali Bongo Hat.

I use a watch winder and "crack my neck " in the show. A 9 or 10 year old girl in the front row says "You have a soda bottle under your arm!" I lifted my arms to show nothing under my arms. She said "I have that in a book at home." I asked "Is it a magic book?" She said "No, it is a book of immature things to do!" The whole audience erupted! I followed it up with the comment "My wife is ALWAYS telling me to grow up!" Priceless . . .

At a Halloween show this one boy came up to help me and he had a helium balloon, which was tied to a piece of string, tied around his arm. I said, "Are you that balloon boy everyone was talking about a few weeks ago?" At the end of the routine, when he went back to his seat, I thanked him and told him how we'll look forward to seeing him on a reality TV show.

I thought it was timely and funny and my audience seemed to agree with me.

A child volunteer for my chair suspension had on white face and a veil. I asked her who she was for Halloween. "A dead bride" she retorted deadpan. Huge laugh. When she reclined on the board, as an afterthought I repositioned her hands in "coffin pose" which also got a great laugh.

That's good.
I like it that at some point that girl said to her mom, "I want to be a dead bride."
My friends 3 year old told her, specifically, he wanted to be a
"Red Police Car Monster".

OK, it's not a funny story from a "Halloween Show," But this Halloween, I took the night off to have some fun myself. I used my Wireless Wizardry MP3 Tech and the small speaker I use for smaller crowds. It was fun! Check it out here:

We host a Halloween party and magic show for our friends every year. Children AND adults come dressed in costumes and this year one set of parents wore the plug and outlet costumes. Perhaps a bit inappropriate, but all the kids were 6 or less.

Anyway, right before the show started I borrowed the outlet and put it on backwards. I came out in front of the crowd and went to grab something on the table with my back turned. Once I heard the adults laughing, I took it off, tossed it aside and said "not that there's anything wrong with that." A nice Seinfeld moment I thought.

After the magic show - the host surprised me by asking me to host their costume contest. I thought, "what the heck." After that I was ready to go, and then another surprise. They asked me to host their pumpkin contest!

At least I got a nice tip.

This was shortly after Halloween. Myself and eight other magicians were doing a cahrity show for Special Olympics. I was the second performer on the bill. I was inntroduced and asked how many of the kids have seen my show. I commented that I have played in a lot of pre schools. A little girl in front said..."Can't you get arrested for that". Thank goodness only me and several people in the very front row heard her. Never know what will come out of their mouths.

Wow some funny stuff here. This most recent Halloween I was hired for a private party. The hostess wanted me to play the part of a Mad Scientist. Great premise for a magician, right? I got there and the decorations were awesome. She had all sorts of creepy looking science gear and jars with colored water and fake brains and stuff in them. There were also candles everywhere. I get down to performing and the night is perfect until a 3 year old girl takes a paper bag that had had my 8' straw in it and lights it on fire. Of course I try and blow it out and of course the fire starts burning more. I start panicing; there is a large crowd of people between me and the kitchen sink. So I just open a huge jar of purple water with an onion (a fairly realistic "tumor") floating in it and drop the bag in. The audience applauded. My heart is racing. People seemed to think it was part of the show or something. I say "I need some water." As I turn to go for water my elbow hits a test tube and it shatters on the floor sending glass and jelly beans everywhere.

What a night. In 30 seconds I went from top of the world to what seemed like total disaster. The hostess was very chipper and she and I cleaned up the glass and I got back to performing after a break to get my nerves back. Then I gave a very brief PSA on "Don't play with fire."

It was a great night. I performed for A LOT of people at the end of the night the hostess said "You did an excellent job" and then included a tip in my check.
