Hello How are you? Im Nicolas Palacios Magician from Chile.
Iam making a projet for my university and I need to know the size of the Magic industry in terms of sales. Also I need Market share of magic dvd industry. I also need the growth of this industry. Does someone know where I can get this data? Or how I can estimate it? – I think that the main competitors in online industry are: – Penguin Magic – Ellusionist – Theory 11 What more do you know? You know the Market Share? Thanks!!! |

Why don't you go on the forums of those companies and ask them? Brad Christian rarely stops by anymore.

Nicolas,
I doubt that the specific information you are seeking is readily available. The industry itself is very fragmented with a lot of it coming from small independent sources that pop up and often disappear again. It sometimes appears that one out of every ten magicians is trying to sell something to the industry. So many magicians are self producing DVD's and effects now that you would have a very difficult time trying to find any one outlet or data source that offers the complete selection available. (I would go so far to say that that outlet does not exist.) It might be more realistic to try and look at some of the major on line suppliers and see if they would answer your questions as to percentage of sales and growth. By narrowing your focus, you might then be able to extrapolate your findings and estimate industry information that you seek. Another source may be to contact the editors of one of the major magic periodicals such as Genii or Magic Magazine and see if they might be able to help. Good luck. |

It would seem information like this would be a valuable and much guarded secret. I mean statistics like that in the right hands, one could crush their competition.
Our friends don't have to agree with me about everything and some that I hold very dear don't have to agree about anything, except where we are going to meet them for dinner.

Are you just looking for retailers, Nicolas? There are a number of magic manufacturers that you may want to look at.
(Note: I don't know anything about these companies other than that they exist, and I know some of their products.) e.g. Vernet in Argentina, Tenyo in Japan, Fun Inc in USA are all large (there are likely more, but these come to mind right away). But there are numerous mid-size and smaller manufacturers, too. John

Murphy's Magic Supply, while not a retailer, is a wholesale supplier to the magic community and retail shops across America, perhaps even the world.
For DVD suppliers, try L&L Publishing, A1 Magical Media (right now, their website is "currently under construction"), and Meir Yedid Magic. Other than Ellusionist, these three are big players in the field of magic videos, with L&L being at or near the top. If any of these companies are publicly traded on a stock exchange, you should be able to get some sort of business portfolio information about them. If NOT publicly traded, you may have to write or call them for more information. Whether they will share with you or not is another matter entirely.
