Will all the talk about Chico on the Café I have a question. I have a new show that I will start performing in march of next year. I open and close the show with the axtell remote drawing boaard. This show also has an intermision so the drawing board will also announce the end of intermision. He also says a few things throughout the show.
The question is would you do Bill Abbotts Chico routine in the same show.

I wasn't aware there were any similarities between the two routines, so why would this be a problem?

I agree. I do not find them all that similar.

That is what I thought but saw several post about doing two puppet type routines in the same show.

Seems to me it would depend on how much puppets are a part of your show. Since I use lots of puppets in my different theme shows, I generally have about three routines per performance where I work with a puppet.

I've often done drawing board and chico in same show. I wouldn't really describe the drawing board as a puppet routine.

Yes. I do 2 other puppet routines in my show along with my drawing board. I see no problem. It all depends on what the puppets do (or say) that counts.

I perform my version of Sammy Smith's Puff the Magic Rabbit routine and the drawing board in many of my shows. Never had a problem with having both in my show.

I am digging the Chico routine. It's looks wonderful.

I think 2 or 3 puppet routines in a one-hour show is ideal. Chico and the Drawing Board are both excelllent choices!

Hmmmm, I use a lot more than 3 puppets in my show.

Check out, when you have time, 5 of my puppets in my new drawing, placed on my home page.

I use the RDB, a hard figure and a couple of soft puppets in a show Smile Plus the masks and the Big Baby gag and mix it up with a few tricks Smile

Our friend Kimmo in his very funny DVD had two soft puppets and the RDB in his show...maybe even adding the mask in his regular shows.

I have seen quite a good number of performers with at least two puppets in the act plus the manual board.

It might only be a concern if your Chico is animatronic. Smile

I recently bought the Axtell animatronic chimp and I don't think having both the chimp and the RDB in a show would be advisable, unless anyone can enlighten me too Smile

I want to clarify my question. I am not a vent and I sell my show as a magic show. Some of the comments about more than one puppet in a show are from those that are not doing a vent or puppet style show. My show is going to be a comedy magic show. In fact my drawing board routine has a magic portion.
Thanks forthe comments.

Tim,
As long as it's funny to your audience and they like your show...just go with it, try it, and see if it works after you've worked on your scripting and flow. It's really not about the line-up as much as the entertainment value. You could do 4 puppets in a row and one magic trick in the beginning..as long as it's a good show, no one cares except you..and that goes for any performer as well.
