The consistent message to newbies from the forum seems to be seek training. Books and DVD's will only take you so far.

Anybody know of good courses in NZ or even across the Tasmin in Australia? Failing that is there anything so good that its worth hopping on a 747 to the US of A for?

I guess it depends what avenue you want to head down, but google Nathan Thomas and Reg Blackwood - they're both based in New Zealand and run training courses.

Thank you

You are feeling a warm glow of well being for sharing your good advice with an interested fellow. You will sleep particularly well for the next week. (let me know if it works, if I'm a natural I might save some money)

Actually there is not a concensus that training is needed. If you want to specialise in therapy training is essential. But if your interest is stage work, books and DVDs will get you there. Tony.

I agree with Tony that if you want to specialize in hypnotherapy, training--indeed, continued training--is essential (combined with books and videos). I disagree, however, when he says that for stage work, "books and DVDs will get you there." For some people this is true, for others it is not. Therefore, I would say that for stage work, "books and DVDs MAY get you there."

Fair enough. But they are a good starting point that won't cost the earth, as opposed to the high price most training courses come at.

On that, Tony, I agree. In fact, if a person goes on to take training, they make excellent references, give additional ideas, and can add more to what a person has learned in the training.
