I had the pleasure of seeing Christopher Carter's one man show last night. He's playing at the Theater Building, 1220 W. Belmont, in Chicago. May I strongly recommend it to everyone with an interest in mentalism, showmanship and/or the value of strong but flexible scripting.
The show runs, ad libs and all, a tight 90 minutes without an intermission. Christopher Carter also comes on stage for a question and answer session after his show. He will be appearing three nights per week for the next six weeks or so. Don't miss him. If you are a knowledgeable mentalist, you won't see much "new," but you'll learn a lot about how to put a show together and, perhaps best of all, you'll be entertained. Disclaimer: I am not in any way associated with Mr. Carter. In fact, I have never met him other than through his posts on this board. Sid

What type of questions does he answer after the show? Am I correct in assuming that it is not a mentalist's Q & A routine, but some other type of questions?

Terry,
Your assumption is correct. It's not a routine at all. What he does is answer questions regarding his "powers." Sid

Sid:
One thing I have attempted to do on this forum (after reading other posts over and over again) is to communicate what I mean. I actually rewrote my previous post a couple of times in an attempt to word it correctly as to what I was asking! So as I stated, what were you "led" to believe? By that I am asking, "What did Christopher say as he was answering the questions regarding his 'powers'"? Obviously, I'm thinking in terms of the debate about claims and disclaimers when it comes to paranormal ability, a topic which has led to much debate in the Magic Café. Terry

Can you give us some more info as to show times, and how we might get tickets... I am new to the Chicago area.
Thanks Drew

As for Mr. Carter, I have never had the pleasure of seeing his show (although I am setting aside time now), but from talking to him he seems to be a very intelligent, polite individual. From what I have heard from local magicshop owners and magicians, I will definitely be seing his show. No one has a bad thing to say! Also, I had the pleasure of seeing a Donny and Marie episode in which he appeared. I don't remember much, as it was about 2-3 years ago, but I do remember his blindfold work was the reason I wanted to become a mentalist! |

Well I have plans this Thursday, but I would love to hit it a Thursday in the future. Anyone interested in attending with me?

In answer to Chris and his "powers", he only uses them for good! Anyone in the area MUST see Chris' show. He is one of the consumate professionals in our business and there is much to learn from his presentations. (And I do not mean ripping them off for your own either)
