Stumbled across an NFL product: battery powered hand held fan with led lettering spelling out team cheers. Went looking on the internet and found programmable ones for $5.95. Offers six messages with sixteen characters each and a number of display modes. Plan to attach to a colander for a comedy mind-reading routine.
Thought I'd share. |

Very clever. Will you or your volunteer be wearing the colander?

The Hyperbolic Thought Channeler? After the initial thought transference attempt with a Dynamo Gyroscopic Ether Oscillator (hand powered mixer) fails, I would strap the HTC onto the head of the test subject, fire up the Elliptical Energy Euphemisms and Rheostatic Radar Reclamators (battery powered lollipop spinners), raise the Auxiliary Arming Antenna (an extension fork), and switch on the Emergency Cooling Fan.
Will need some wire bundles running about, an old glass tube or two, a few flashing lights, and maybe Theremin-like sound too. Remember those UFO balls from a few years back? Think I still have a couple of them and a few funkenrings too. And the whole thing could come out of a lab-equipment-style box w Broadcast Energy stenciled on it and adorned w bio-hazard, radiation, Mr. Yuk, Skull & Bones, and High Voltage symbols and a bit of crime scene tape. Old idea but like the chance to add the red led spinning fan for the blow-off. Got any suggestions? |

Will you actually be using it to reveal something thought of by the spec??
My idea is that you could have it revel what the spec is thinking. "I'm hungry"... "I feel silly"... "I don't like his trousers"... "I want a PS3"... etc... etc. Obviously this could transfer over to adult magic too with other themes. I might have to borrow this idea from you. Do you mind?

I have one of these. Went for the spectators reading the subject's mind idea with a simple card force.
For stand up I occasionally program a few well chosen expletives into it and call it an anti-heckler device. Lots of posibilities though. Although mine doesn't work 100% of the time. |

Idea is to use a card force and then have the assistant send a thought-wave out to the audience so that they can read her mind and call out the chosen card.
"Nomally scientists test thought transference powers with ESP cards, but they're really expensive, so we'll be using these instead. Get 'em at Costco, an ordinary deck: here's the tree of hearts, the seven and a half of clubs, fourteen of diamonds..." Will go the color-suit-number route to extend the reveal. And I'll need an additional message once I send the assistant back so that she can see what the audience has been seeing. Roslyn: help yourself. You a Red Devil fan? |

I use mine to say "Happy Birthday" both at birthday parties and to anyone who comes into anyone who comes into the restaurant to celebrate their birthday.

Found it at Windy City Novelties among other sites. They have a video clip too.
As it is a fan, could be used close-up: "Not the three of hearts? Seven of clubs? Wow, that's embarrassing..." Pick up fan to cool off... |

I use one of these at outdoor events, especially wedding receptions, where people would be glad of a little breeze.
Card is selected (forced)...while the person is shuffling it back into the deck, bring out the fan, offer to cool everyone off, and reveal the card. Short & sweet. Works better in a courtyard or under a tent where there's less direct sunlight. I program three different cards and rotate among them. Cheers, Eric |
