My lovely wife, who hates me, wants a lap top because she refuses to use my computer. Her main use will be to check email and play games on line, for example Gem Drop, nothing hard corp. What one out there is priced good and will keep her quiet?

Santa,
You can find a respectable everyday laptop or notebook in the 3 to 400 dollar range. That should do what you need it to do...except keep her quiet. I make no guarantees in that department. My wife uses the computer for everyday things, she's not technical at all. In fact, she hates and is afraid of computers. I get called for tech support at least once a day. Icon has moved, screen colors change, printer has vanished, etc. Every change causing immediate panic. She's only been working with computers for just over 10 years; so maybe someday it will change. But it hasn't kept her quiet. But I love her just the same. Steven

Santa, if you're a courageous man with a touch of desperation, you might want to visit WalMart on Black Friday (Day after Thanksgiving - may your deity be with you). I understand that they are planning on selling Toshiba laptops at rock bottom prices that day. The Toshiba will do everything you want and more with a fairly sound reputation.
I know a couple of parents that bought them for their kids during the "tax-free holiday" in September for around $200 and have no complaints.

Thank you! Man....the day after Thanksgiving I'm going to be in San Jose, a nightmare to be in on any day, homicidel on Black Friday. If I was home the entire country could go to Walmart and it still be mellow (people from Reno drive the 30 miles to ours cuz it is empty most the time). The Acer may be worth not going out on Black Friday!
