Hello
My business partner and I are opening a haunted house next year and along with typical Halloween props, we've decided to develop illusions in the house. I used to keep with all the latest technology and developments but have been out of the magic industry for some time. Here is a brief list of what we're considering so far. Blue Room Peppers Ghost Living Half lady Mysterious Swing (I think that's the name) Spider Girl Illusion Jack-O-Lantern Girl Decapitated Princess The Birth of Chloris Temple of Buddha Improved aga Levitation (used for possessed person effect) Witch Doctor's revenge That's the general genre I'm looking for. Anyone have any other ideas? |

Sure, how much are your paying for a consultant?

After reading the Haunted Magazines for years, a consultant is cheap compared to the rewards of their advice. The savings for just for NOT making common mistakes is worth it. Then the advice on how to double/triple the profits again is worth it.

Remember- in most haunted houses, the customers are wandering through at a fairly brisk pace, and don't have time to watch a complete illusion. Most of your stuff should just be displays- like the Decapitated Princess and Living Half Lady you mentioned.
This does allow you to bypass a lot of the "finishing" aspects of your illusions (you don't have to worry about how the assistant gets into the box with everyone watching, for example) but doesn't make it much easier, since your actors will need to repeat the same twenty second performance hundreds of times. Your props need to be durable and very easy to reset. Lady to Gorilla (or some hideous monster) could be easily added to your list; it fits the bill very well.

There's an old out of print book written by Philip Morris long ago, How to operate a financially successful haunted house, which may be of interest if it can be found.

Go for the Paul Osborne Book. It gives a lot of ideas, building plans and exemples and advices of the real world that everyone wanting to create a Hounted House Attraction should take to their very heart.
