Sammy's routines is called Puff the Magic Rabbit. Quite a bit like Chico the Mind Reading Chimp.

I usually do not respond to old posts like this one, but since I just bought the whole Chico routine here I go. I have been interested in Chico for quite awhile. I have been hesitant on buying Chico, because of the price. Luckily, Hocus Pocus put this routine on sale for a price I could not refuse. As a ventriloquist, I can't wait to take Bill's Chico routine to another level.
85% of my shows are for young audiences. I know without any doubt that Chico/Bubbles now will be a big hit. He will appear in his first show on June 6th. Stay tuned! |

Haha! Right off the bat as soon as I put the suit case on my table, I'll have Bubbles saying in a distant voice; "Hey, let me out uh here." I'll introduce him, but then he has stage fright. He'll peek out of the right side of the opened case and pop back as soon as the kids see him. Then he'll peek out of the top of the case. This will go on for a little while. I'll ask him what's wrong and he'll say he is scared to come out.
I have a few other ideas as well. I can't wait. I have 6 shows so far in June. Stay tuned. |

I received my Chico package today. Right off the bat, I did all the preliminary stuff to set up the trick. I decided to name my Monkey, Nacho. Being shorter then Bubbles, allowed me to make his name bigger on the roll out mat.
I guess the hardest thing for me is getting use to the puppet. Holding stuff like the mirror, and cards, and mostly the binoculars. I'll be practicing a lot with him tomorrow. |

Does your hand fit comfortably inside the puppet? I find that most puppets are very snug (if not too small for me). Getting them on and off quickly is very hard, and the manipulation is somewhat compromised by the tight fit.
Maybe my hands are just too big. |

I don't think I have large hands. I'm 6 foot tall and weigh 225lbs.
What I did learn to manipulate the puppet the best, was to put my thumb in his left arm, and my index finger in his head and my middle finger into his right arm. I also bought some smaller binoculars from dollar tree. Nacho, my puppet can hold this much easier. I also added something to the base of the mirror that came with my puppet, so that I can have Nacho hold that a lot easier. Using my printer I made 14 Y's and cut them out and glued them over 14 of the alphabet cards so that I could use a change bag instead. I have my Vent routine down and I'm ready for Nacho's debut on Monday. I like having Nacho being able to talk. Anyone that wants to use any of my ideas are welcome too. I'd share my whole routine. |

I like, the idea of using the change bag as the shuffling is a little difficult with the puppet

Let me tell you a great thing you can do. Take your Y card and make about 12-14 copies of it from your printer. Then cut them out and glue the cutouts to some of the cards you do not use. That is how I force the Y card.
Another thing I'll share with everybody is that I took out only the cards in the deck that spell Nacho The Mind Reading Monkey. I take those cards out of the box. With the cards facing the kids I show the cards one by one asking them if they know what letter I'm showing. I have been shocked to here 2-4 year olds saying the letters out loud as I am showing them. "I have a N a A a C a H and a O." " What does that spell?"" NACHO!" Heck, I think I was 16 years old when I finally learned the alphabet. Anyway, I do that for each word. Then I give all of those cards to the volunteer to drop into the change bag. Another gag you can do that is funny is to have your monkey ask for a kiss on the cheek. At the last second he turns his head to get a kiss on the lips. Then I make a big deal out of it, Ugh, you kissed a monkey! |
