Have you considered the real thing? There are plenty of professional knife throwing acts including the thrower and his lovely assistant.

Not only that, but doing an illusion like that really takes away from the pros who do it for real. If enough magicians did it, most audiences will eventually believe that ALL knife throwers are faking it.
Magician guys/gals, please don't fake what good performers are doing for real. This includes sword swallowing, blockhead, bed of nails, pierced weightlifting, etc. Thank you.

Don't forget gunfights and sword duels.
I understand what you're saying, but it's a theatrical musical; legit theatre IS illusion for all intents and purposes. To put it in a different perspective, using hidden gadgets to make the actress playing Annie Oakley look like a crack shot with a rifle does not detract from the skills of real marksmen; they KNOW the actress is NOT a marksman, and is NOT using live ammo. The same would apply to an actor playing a knife thrower. Having a real knife thrower might create a fun publicity blurb, but would also give the producers insurance/safety headaches.

I also sent you an Private Message with a contact for a builder and other info about this effect. "Break a leg", and were will the show be? It is a great play and I'd love to see your production if it is near me.

Thanks Steve.. I wasn't looking at it from that perspective. Look at footage from any 50's movies involving knife throwing. It's all dropping the knife at the back swing and another "knife" popping in from the back of the board. You are correct, actors are not magicians and for theatrical purposes I would avoid the real thing.
