Hi folks,
Just thought I'd share a gospel presentation with a newly-released effect: Pavel's Black Knot. If you are not familiar with the effect, check out: >Hocus Pocus< (the Product Search will get you there). But the gospel version basically plays it backwards: the rope starts off with a "black heart". The stain cannot be washed out; it cannot be cut out. It is very much like the stain of sin on our hearts. In fact, it is not only a stain on the rope, it can also make our lives crooked as well. (Form a knot in the middle of the rope, where the black portion is). Now the stain is impossible to remove, apart from God's redeeming work. Bringing out a red handkerchief, representing our Saviour's sacrifice, the evangelist now "wipes" the knot right off the rope. If anyone is interested, I've worked out a handling for the above with the apparatus provided. You'll have to provide me with evidence that you've bought Pavel's creation, though. Ironically, my handling is simpler, easier and much more convincing than the one the instructions recommend. I'm really looking forward to using this one at camp this summer regards, Doug

Doug:
Without tipping the method, could you do the routine as suggested (white knot turns black), untie to show, tie again and then do your routine? I'm just trying to think through a biblical concept here. Pretty expensive rope trick, I would say! Thanks, Terry

Hi Terry,
The answer, in principle, is "yes". The procedure/MO required to achieve the white-knot-turns-black is simple, straightforward and ingenious. But to be honest, the procedure for "untying the knot" to show a black piece in the center of the rope is non-trivial, to say the least. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that it is impractical. I'd be delighted to find a way to achieve the original effect, however, and will continue to puzzle over the instructions. And you are correct, it is expensive; but it is well-made. regards, Doug
