My wife’s best friend from child hood, who I have known a very long time, who was, I can assure you, a perfectly intelligent, normal person, before yesterday is today a lunatic psychic. Last night she attended a class out of curiosity, she had seen a notice. which read “Do you have psychic ability? If you don’t know, then attend our class to see if you have!” So she went and today she believes 100% and whole heartedly she is in fact psychic! She is now, strange and scary, its like…….. she has been brainwashed by some cult.

Maybe she should visit the Pennies forum. That'd cure her of wanting psychic powers.

I was drawn into a cult once. I was lured with what was an interesting proposal, the next thing I know, I was buying tapes every month, going to meetings every week, being told to bring family and friends into the program, and stop dealing with those who did not want to come in. Plus my house was full of soap, vitamins, and lotions. I was in the cult of Amway for a couple months...

And my wife, who is not a perfectly intelligent normal person, thinks its wonderful that her friend has discovered that she has this gift. An I with my psychic eye can foresee my wife going on this class next, and before you know it we will all be married to psychic lunatics.

I wouldn't worry too much. My mother thinks she's a dog psychic. Other than that she's relatively normal. Of course, she didn't have to pay someone to tell her this. She just decided it one day. The weird thing is there have been a number of times she's said a dog had cancer and after the owners followed up with a vet, darned is she wasn't right. Not enough times to say it's consistent or anything, but strange just the same. In the south we just call it eccentric.

My wife thought our first rabbit, Daisy, had cancer. Took her (Daisy) to the vet. Turned out Daisy was actually a boy and that wasn't tumours she was squeezing.

He just sits around pumping all his money into their products, trying to become a big seller. It really is a cult- they encourage you to stop being friends with anyone who doesn't help you towards your goal (by buying products from you.) Even worse, QuikStar is heavily intertwined with a religious group- join QuikStar, try out their church; go to their church, join QuikStar like the rest of the congregation. I'm not sure what brand of Christianity they're preaching, but I have a hunch it doesn't involve rich men, camels, and eyes of needles...

At the moment I do not really know what happened at the class but I think from the gist of it they used stooges. One thing I think they did was to ask her and another "student" to sit back to back and they were both to think of something and each draw what they thought the other was thinking of. Our friend drew a picture of a man. On seeing it the other "student" bust into tears and said it was her late husband. And stuff such as that.

A rep from a local 'psychic development' group called "Zella Mind Control" once approached me after a show, asking me to lecture for her group.
"What about?" I asked. "Your gift." she responded. I told her what she saw in the show was all illusion. She walked off, disgruntled.

Cults suck.
I have known two different people who got divorced because the "grand poo bah" or what ever they call themselves, said that members needed to separate themselves from non-believers. I have no good advice here. I also lost a friend over my "non-believer" status. On the positive side - I did help "De-program" a woman once. I have no skill, training, or credential to do this. I was just being a friend. It was scary walking down the street with her, and watching her constantly looking around in case any of her former cult mates were coming for her. They never did, but her fear was very real. If your wife really wants to keep her friendship, and if this really is a cult, and not just a group of idiots, This will be very hard. Every effort made to get her out, feeds into the classic "Your friends don't want you to reach your full potential becasue they are afraid of you... get rid of your old friends" routine. Since they are into psychic B.S. You might consider showing up there and doing a feat of mentalism. Sell it as if you really have abilities. Don't use cards or anything to make it look like a magic trick. Done right you will scare the heck out of the poo bah who will feel threatened and probably throw you and the girl out for safety. All the while claiming you are in league with the devil or some crap like that. Sorry for being so intense here, but I take this topic very seriously.

Having just, 2 weeks ago, losing my 20-year-old cat to cancer, I never thought I'd laugh at a joke like this. But you made me do it. Out loud.
