Wow, only one person has gotten close. lol Well, someone was within 2 and someone was within 4, the next closest was quite a ways off.

47 or 71

Both psychologically appealing numbers.

If that's the case, then the number is above 64 and below 72 . . .

So it must be either 65 or 71

Hmm, if the next closest (73) was "way off" - then the number must surely be 65???

Wow, I get a feeling that I'm wrong . . .

Hi Irfaan,

I suppose it depends on what Jonathan considers "way off".

That really doesn't matter, however, because I know it's 54... even if Jonathan publicly says it isn't 54, it is 54. He might even deny that it's 54 and say it is some other number in order to make me look like I can't read his mind. But I did, and the number is 54. Just wait... you'll see Smile

That means I originally got the closest with my impression of the number 52 (see above).

And that, right there, is why we have our participants write down their thoughts. Well, that... among other reasons.

See, writing something down is not only justified, but totally logical.

That's easily explained... you are in a different zone than I, thus accounting for the difference of "2 off" Smile

Good one! I wondered how best to tactfully get this point across to a spectator without insinuating they are going to flake out on you. Not something one would need to stress all the time, but something in reserve for the more skeptical-seeming participant. Perhaps a (fabricated) tale of how you got burned once, so you insist on having everything written down "for the record".

I can't believe I'm giving this away, but sometimes what I like to do is start out doing it without writing anything down. Then when they give their answer out loud I say "yep, I was right!" It gets a laugh and when you ask what's wrong they say they don't believe you. I say "well, I could say what I think it is first, but then you could just lie."

Then, do it again having them write it down (or you if doing a NW/PW style effect).
