I don't know this particular trick, but one thing that I do is making them want to earn the praise of how well they sat back down, etc. I, also, for instance, enjoy letting them go wild, and in a split second getting them back to where I want them.
One thing I do that's fun-Suppose the bday child's name is Lyle- I pretend I'm making a phone call to our rival party in Utah, Kyle's party- "what, you all say they sat down in 3.2 seconds', hmmmm, 'you guys want to try to beat them'? They all go "yea', so they stand up, my hands are in the air, and as soon as I quickly put them down, like I'm constructing an orchestra, they sit down as fast as they can. I repeat, "hey Kyle, we did it in 3.3,", I look at the audience, "they got us by a tenth, let's try it again, until they win of course. I actually have 2 or 3 quick conversation's with Kyle's party. It's hysterical. Also, to get them quiet, go to a whisper from your normal voice. Another techique= Everyone put one hand on your head, one on your shoulder, one finger on your lips-(praise now)'Excellent, got something to tell you all', and continue the show. Kids want to please, and it's amazing how quickly you can have them jumping up and dancing to sitting down and hanging on your every word. |
