I decided it cluttered the web description too much and is more appropriate for the Café forum, so I moved it to the "tricks and effects" Mojoe post. Here it is...
Frequently asked questions: Do I need to buy any refills? No. Are there any clothing requirements? No. Can I drink some coffee before I make it vanish? Yes. Can the coffee be hot or does it need to be cold? Hot or cold, it doesn't matter. Do I need to crush the cup at the end or can I show it empty instead? Crushing the cup is very dramatic so there are some crushed cup handlings. Other handlings include vanishes where the cup is shown empty at the end and also a transposition where the coffee changes into coffee beans (or another object). Can the cup be examined at the end? You will learn handlings (including some of the crushed cup handlings) that allow the cup to be examined at the conclusion. It is important to keep in mind, though, that after you crush the cup it becomes litter in the spectator's mind. Is it limited to coffee shop performances? Although coffee shops are a great venue, Mojoe also works with a variety of drinks in your home, on parlour or stage, or anywhere that a cup of coffee, soda, milk, etc. can be introduced. Is it difficult? The average person will need about 1-2 hours of practice. |

I believe this is the typical effect you would do on TV, on a promotional dvd, etc. I like it.

I've know John for well over 20 years. So yes, I'm a good friend of his. He's one of the most brilliant "Mad Scientists" in magic.
I watched the video loved it. First, do I have thoughts about the "how?" Sure, but I'll freely admit I'm fooled. Second, did you see the reaction when John turned the cup upside down? The girls freaked. Vanishing the coffee is the second blow to the head. Reading the options about changing the coffee into beans, crushing or not crushing the cup. It's all just too cool. I know John has made this practical and functional but I think that this is the perfect trick for any magicians demo reel. It's one of those total visual effects that come along about every ten years. John's one of the few creators that has a list of classics. If you don't do Translocation or Mid-Air Card Stab or any of his other demented, sick, twisted tricks you're missing the boat. I don't even drink coffee but I'm buying Mojoe. |
